Cheap Freight

I generally have a pretty low attitude of my current PM. Lately, I think he has been doing a decent job in the trade negotiations, simply by not folding like a cheap suit like I would have expected.

If you are of the group that thinks Canada is some sort of threat to the USA, economic or otherwise, you need to give your head a shake. From your own countries findings, our trade is pretty well balanced, some years you have a surplus and others you have a deficit, which are never overbalanced one way or the other. If you think Canada is a "national security threat" then you are obviously paranoid. We have stood beside you in countless wars and military operations around the world for decades. We didn't give you the middle finger on 9.11 when all the planes were grounded. Both countries enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship in many ways. Many families have members on both sides of the border. Our cultures are very similar. Yet somehow we are a threat. Delusional! Hopefully just a hiccup in our otherwise close relationship.

The OP is concerned about immigrants coming in and working for less. I find it funny that he's about 200 yrs too late for that. America thrives on cheap labor. Always has,.. always will. Slavery, the Chinese, then the Irish and Germans, then the Italians,.. now its the Eastern Euro and Latinos. Immigrants will go where ever there is work. And there will always be people like the OP who become threatened and fear them.

In trucking the margins are determined by a carriers efficiency and ability to create a profitable business model. Rates are generally effected by supply and demand.

When freight volume expands beyond what carriers can support, then more and more will get thrown onto the spot market. As a result the rates will have no choice but to go up. The opposite happens when markets are saturated with stock and freight volume goes down. A successful trucker will follow these trends and plan accordingly.

The cold hard reality is that trucking is a cut throat, dog eat dog business. During times of famine its not the immigrants he needs to worry about. Its guys like me who will underbid the next guy to keep my trucks rolling. I will enjoy the good rates while they last,..but my equipment is paid for. My expenses are not the same as someone with a brand new truck. I will survive the lean times when they come.

@Hurst don’t waste your breath brother it’s not worth it. Every study show that LEGAL immigration helps economy and the country( more tax revenue). If you want to blame illegal immigrants then also blame companies and owners who break the law by hiring them.

I’m still trying to figure out when you said you hate white people, according to OP.

 

All I know is, there's LOTS of small, medium, and large carriers with 3-4 year equipment trade cycles that are negotiating rates to support these massive costs [largely imposed by regulations] and still are very profitable through the good times and survive the bad times.

Why you want to leave money on the table is beyond my ability to comprehend. But brokers love your way of thinking and rely on it.

 

OP needs to realize it’s supply and demand thing if he wants to buy a truck and run a business. Trucks are not color ,nationality or religion coded when customer needs one.

I can only assume its because I dont agree with his point of view and told him how I felt about his comments.

People often become belligerent and insulting when they are butt hurt by truthful facts.

And in case its not known,.. I am indeed a very white Caucasian.
