Why slow down when passing?

yes i agree no one deliberately just passes and sits right beside you may as well just stay behind, i only pass if i'm going fast enough to get in front of you, and you can tell just how quick their going by how fast you approach the vehicle in front, alternatively if your the vehicle being passed why no slow down and let them pass you?

 

I say this. Most truckers don't really see it, but we knock off the speed on cruise to let a big boy to pass. Usually hes on the Governor at 63. We are doing 65 but somehow he catches up to us on a small hill and wants to get by he does not want to take the effort to lift his foot and touch the brakes to manage the hill. (That's a really tiny detail perhaps Im wrong on this)

We already stopped using the major roads so there will be even less trucks around excepting the gas rig tankers and loggers who do really well.

Im not particularly impressed by the goings on from a car driver's point of view, the crappy cheap company house of card tractors and loads of stuff on them that really serves the satisfaction of excessive regulations. I thought the 70's prior to deregulation was bad. At least we have CAT and a windmill power maker plus a steel mill going up among other things. So there will be trucks for a while. Just not that good across the board anymore.

 

On a hill now thats a totally different subject i would certainly not slow down i'm going to be giving it all the revs i can just to make it up and am not sure who'd be passing "up a hill" unless their empty in which case they should fly on by.

 

Long before emissions and computers came along every hill we hit, we sorted out fast ones up front drags to the caboose everyone else in the rocking chair. No problems.

These were in the days of split speed limits too. And we thought those were bad. I don't recall the Texas version but it was barn sized with about 30 different speed limits at the line once.

I pass more often going uphill than on flat ground. Any truck can go fast on flat ground, the strong ones drag 80k+ fast up hill.

The real special ones go fast downhill. That takes a special kind of stupid.

 

I got a 'special' 3x5 warning "traffic safety reminder" last night, passing on an upswing. Yay me. Most of Ohio is pretty flat, but we have our 'sweet' spots... guess OSHP knew that spot also. LoL.

 

Well i wasnt suggesting passing when not safe or legal to do so.

Ohio is far frim flat. 250 north of wheeling is fun fun fun.
