Im starting a new gig and this will be the 1st time taxes were ever a real worry for me. Any tips would be appreciated.
P.S. don't worry about how many jobs I've had this year. I did fine at 1 for 10 years.
Starting with a drive away company

Save 30% of your gross income for taxes. The money goes into a savings or checking account that isn't used for anything but taxes. That 30% is the first check you write, to your Tax account. You never borrow from it, not even one time. You don't delay putting money in it. Every time you get a check, 30% goes into your Taxes account. After a year, adjust the 30% to what you actually paid. Always save a little more than you expect.
The most common way I've seen guys screw up is to not pay into their tax account until a few months go by and then decide they'll save extra later. Later never comes. Then they do their quarterly or end of year taxes and see they don't have money for the IRS. The IRS will get their money, even if you have to starve or got to jail. -
Thank you. I really appreciate the answer.
