No. Trucking is 10 times worse than Silicon Valley when you realize most drivers with in excess of 10 years experience, have at least 5 employers in that 10 years. You won't see that kind of churn in any other job.
A company provides a 401k plan as a means to promote longevity at the company, not as an "immediate benefit/perk".brian991219 Thanks this. -
I had a similar question about PTO and made the call to the state. They didn't ask about handbooks or anything, just said that employers didn't have to offer PTO at all if they didn't want to and they can dole it out as they see fit.

both Florida and California have palm trees other than that nothing in common. .... despite the tourist areas and your wealthy retired community Tallahassee is still on the good old boy system. ...... Sacramento is entirely a different kind of bird ...... to put it short if you want something that you feel is yours just for being alive your better off in California. .... if you wanted to work for something you want to be in Florida .......... the panhandle and the non Orlando area interior. ..... the coast are pretty much under occupation lol

Everytime I see a driver mad a company won't pay for something or honor some agreement or expectation of the driver, I think about the majority of newbies that ask about "free training" from trucking companies and are planning to jump ship 3 days after they get their CDL.

Scenario 1
Employee has 1 week accrued vacation, takes it and day 2 of vacation calls and says "I quit, I'm not coming back"
Company says "fine, toodles and forget about vacation pay"
Scenario 2
Employee has 1 week accrued vacation, takes it and day 2 of vacation calls and says "here's my 2 weeks notice"
Company says "fine, toodles and forget about vacation pay"
Scenario 1 is an employee I wouldn't want to hire, scenario 2 is a company I don't think I want to work for....ZVar Thanks this. -
The two week notice is not mandatory, just like they can fire you for anytime and for any reason. They are not obligated to pay out the vacation time but it would have been the ethical thing to do. I actually informed them I am not returning five days into the vacation. They could have paid at least those days since I was technically still an employee.
I actually did not want to quit but was forced to. I liked the company and the truck I was driving.
At the end of the day it's just business and they are watching their money. Therefore I have no hard feelings but definitely won't ever return there or recommend drivers to them. -
