? ... if you’ve been driving class A already, you should already have a CDL, no?
-
I do not have my class A. But am wondering if the actual school attended matters.
-
No not really. Going through a tech college cdl program takes a little longer but you might get more out of it. Or you can do what seems to be the trend now, go straight to a trucking company and let them train you.
-
Thanks! I am currently waiting for a tech school to start in August. But, I might go to a company and get this started. Was wondering do companies look back at where you learned.
-
They do look. But this industry needs new drivers on the regular. So sometimes having a valid cdl is all that matters... as bad as that sounds
-
OK. If they do look, than I will most likely wait. Just getting "antsy". Thanks for the advice!

Some companies want a 160 hour course. Some are less picky. Some have an approved school list. Once you have been driving for 6 months or so, no one will care what school you went to.
If you are looking to start making money right away, check with Millis Transfer and Prime Inc. They both offer CDL training and have some of the best starting pay for new licensees. You will be locked into a one year contract, but it is a good idea to stay with your first company for a while anyway. -
Most companies want 160 hours. As @Jerry Rigs posted, some companies, mainly tanker outfits have a list of schools they hire from, but not all tanker company do this.
Puppage Thanks this. -
Thanks. I am just getting "antsy' about waiting. But, if it does effect me, than waiting is what must be done.
