Ok let me tell you that you won't get that great of a company if you don't get into a school. They can "PREHIRE" you all day if you have a good driving and working record but will put you on a hold status until they see your grades from school. That is what happened to me and I have the grades to give them now. I only have a couple weeks left in school and have gotten an official letter of prehire just recently. From what my school is telling us is that because of the slow down in trucking, they are still hiring but being very picky about who gets hired. I have a guy in my class who applied to one of the biggest co's and got turned down because of some fireworks mistermeaner fine back 8 or 9 years ago. That's just crazy....

I would say that any company has a right to disqualify someone for any job if they have any kind of a criminal record. That charge may seem a little weak, but if a company has a choice between hiring someone with a criminal record and someone without a criminal record, they're usually going to take the person without a criminal record.

That is so right. They are overloaded with so many people wanting to get a job in trucking that they are looking very hard at the app's that come in. I don't blame them at all....

I have a friend that works for a OTR company and he said the new drivers they are hiring are a lot different then what they were getting a year ago. Lots of people looking for work and not a lot of jobs.

True that !!! I have been waiting for a chance to get into trucking for a long time now. Now I pretty much don't have a choice with my job going into the crapper any day now. I have at least 5-6 people in my class that are unemployed and have turned to becoming a trucker as a last resort...
That kills me because this is what I want to do and not what I need to do....Some of these people do not belong behind the wheel of a 40 ton truck at all !!

Sounds like my class, from overhearing convos and talking to a few I say 80% are recently unemployed and very few are upgrading from B to A

Just got a call from the recruiter at GTI. My app is going to the corporate office for final review. He said they just need to look over my DAC report from when I drove for Covenant 6 years ago and I already know that there is nothing bad on there, so I'm pretty optimistic. I'll keep everyone posted.

I just got off the phone a little while ago with them and I have to wait until I graduate to get an orientation date....that's a bummer...but I guess that they want to make sure they have a trainer available and a slot open...

I would say so. I told the recruiter yesterday that the school I was leaning towards is an 8 week program and he said if I'm approved for pre-hire, that won't be a problem. Hoping to get a phone call sometime today with some good news.
