That's great!!!!!
Keep this in mind.I too remember driving the big trucks with dad,all the smells,sounds and good times with his buddies.And i do reminiss about how i ''perceived' trucking to be,back in that day.
I can assure you this much.It is no were near that today.It's a fantasy of the yester-years..Truckers back then were truckers.We do not produce many truckers anymore in this era,if any at all..They were a different breed then today's so called ''trucker''
Different quality of men were made back then.They were a ''very hard working generation'' and very strong,to mention a few.They were very hard men and woman.
What i am getting at is you would be very disappointed in the business today if you were to give up your job and education to become this trucker based out of your perception of the yester-years.Them days are long gone.
I hope you do not make the mistake and go to these ''school for the blind'' and re live a fantasy that aint there...More people get out of trucking then stay in trucking,once it wears off.
To bad you did not no someone with a rig and you could just put my theory to the test and run with him for 2 weeks.Then you will no for sure..
Some things are better left being a ''fantasy'' -

I am parked and have another interview with a guy tomorrow for a nice job home evreyday,out and back and making 1,200 for me.a dedicated COMPANY deal out of kansas city.I have my fingers crossed.
But the selling point for landstar is you get to go where you wanna go....
NEWS FLASH:::::NOT TRUE ANYMORE
you go were the freight is.and that could be anywhere at this stage of the game.and you have to deadhead at least 300 miles and burn a day to get there...
Landstar is not what it used to be.AGENTS RUINED IT WITH GREED..AND RUMER IS C.H. IS TEAMING UP WITH LANDSTAR AT THE END OF 2009...LOL,LOLClick to expand...
-------------
The funny part is that I'll call my Landstar agent to get a rate and most of the time, they're in the range of $200 - 600 more per run than any competitors I call!! I can call her and offer her $XXXX to run a load and she has the option to take it or turn it down. Generally she can cover it by using another Landstar authorized carrier (brokering the load).
Their selling point used to be great customer service and on time, just about every time. That's everyone now, not much of a selling point, and I can tell you that I'm not going to pay $3/mile if I can get the same everything for just $2!!
Good luck w/ Landstar!!1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
