Yup. Was told my trainer ( quote ), " Your ahead of the curve. Everything's fine ... " ... the next day ( Friday ) I wake up and he tells me that TMC will NOT hire me on. Btw, before I get a little too far ahead of myself, I was in my 2nd week of training. I was then basically told my the coordinator and my trainer ( Friday ) that I, and several others, were being let go because of the current harsh economic realities ... oh, and because my following distance was too close at times with the vehicle in front of me :biggrin_25517: To say that I'm still devastated is a severe understatement ! I've called at least 2 dozen other companies in search for work ( it certainly doesn't help being a student driver ) and NO ONE is hiring. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you that are experiencing ( or have experienced ) the same thing ... times are tough ... real tough. Btw, I'm NOT ever going to go back to TMC ... I will never talk bad about the company because I still believe it's a great company, however, my experience with them has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Both my trainer and trainer coordinator were very two-faced ... for reasons I'd rather not explain on here. Sorry. At any rate, I'm trying to stay positive. :)

If you are let go for driving practices (following too closely), they don't pay unemployment. On the bright side, for them, they got a couple weeks of cheap labor out of you, which was probably what they were after.

It will be my guess that a lot of companies will be letting newbies go after the cheap part of training is over. You know, the part where you drive basicially team for peanuts, and before you get turned loose to a higher wage.

If there is a way to exploit cheap labor, and have no ethics or qualms about using people, you can bet the big companies will use every trick they can think of to save a penny.

I don't drive for them, for my personal reasons. I do pull a flatbed, and one of the most dangerous things in flats is to not have enuff following distance. Loads are subject to shifting when not properly secured, and even when secured properly, so the following distance is even more critical hauling flatbed freight. Now as to how you were dismissed, that just plain blows... Good Luck and keep calling.

Thanks for all your support guys ! I really appreciate it and I will definitely keep you updated. Currently I'm looking into Transam ( they ARE hiring Students ) and DOT Foods ( I recieved a PM from Madbunny about this company ... I'll let you guys know if they're hiring ). As far as the companies that are not taking Students right now, newtrucker77 ( I had a list that I checked off ... can't find the da*n thing ... figures ) ... I tried Swift, JB Hunt ( yes, I called JB Hunt ), adtransport, KLLM, Schneider, Roehl, Arrow, Prime, and quite a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. To be fair though, quite a few companies that I was calling wouldn't hire me because of the fact that I lived in Michigan and/or because I had no experience ... so that's another thing, as a student, that you'll have to take into account. Good luck, guys and thanks again. :)

Don't feel bad. I'm from Michigan, was on that home depot account. They changed the ROC's around and we got some new VP or something named Denise. After 3 years with these people they fire me for being late.

A year ago, at worst they'd put you back OTR, and that was if you screwed up really bad. Just be happy you diddn't get far enough in for them to screw you out of vacation time and 3 or 5 bonuses from Trainee's that are getting ready to have their safe 6 months in.
