Currently a company driver with 8 months of experience. I had my heart set on joining Landstar as soon as I had 1 year solid.
Unfortunately I had a minor backing accident and hit another truck at our company terminal last week. So Landstar won’t take me for at least 1 year.
So for the meantime, id really like to start driving in an owner operator.
What’s everyone’s take on leasing to a carrier. Swift, FedEx Ground, UPS etc etc... Is it worth considering or maybe just wait?
Best Owner Operator company to start with.

Where is your location?

You could wait, save some money and really research and find the truck you want. Some other decent companies are, admiral merchants, Mercer, and maybe some smaller fleets that will let you book your own freight.
Get to know the industry, freshen up on some mechanical skills, talk with more people etc. I wouldn’t recommend getting started to a lease on company without at least 10k cash after you make your truck down payment or pay your truck in cash. And 10k is on the low side. Plenty of threads on here to read.
Good luckChinatown Thanks this. -

Didn’t even consider OD. I’ll have to look that up. Thanks much!

Can you elaborate on that? I assume it basically gives them all of the power in that situation?

Admiral Merchants may still have a terminal not too far from Ft. Lewis.
