Ah, so feeder drivers are an all in one type deal, no city or linehaul. Interesting they get paid by the hour and no miles. But from what I understand, they get a very lucrative wage to make up for no mileage pay.

Oh yeah. It's something like $36 these days. But my buddy absolutely hates his job for a variety of reasons (except for the money of course) and feels trapped at this point. Recently, another driver went up to him and said that he noticed he didn't shave that day. Makes me glad to be working at a more laid-back place.Sho Nuff, Pintlehook and Buckeye91 Thank this.

Wage rates at UPS are outlined in the contractual supplements, I think my area is around $38/hr. Serious ching, for sure. Definitely a different atmosphere though, just not my cup of tea.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

It all depends on where you're at. Some hubs have mileage pay which is for anything over 500 miles. Some don't ever go that far.
Some hubs keep p&d and "linehaul" separate just like LTL companies do.Buckeye91 Thanks this. -

I think they'd have to. There are always exceptions in transportation, tho.

OTR drivers are Truckload. They do dedicated accounts and flatbed work. Out weeks at a time. Different division...non union. Linehaul/Road Driver is what your thinking of.Bob Dobalina and speedyk Thank this.

Since someone revived this thread I'm going to say what I know about it. Full Time Road Driver is the traditional position used to move terminal to terminal freight. Line Haul Driver, is a new position that was created with the latest contract. It pays a lower rate, has a much lower wage progression and doesn't have access to next day/regional freight. It's a position created to take some of the freight off contractors, that UPS has been utilizing more and more, to move longer haul freight. This is a contentious issue, and I'm interested to see how or if the new contract addresses it. I've noticed some of the swipes that have been taken in some of the posts, so I'm going to put in my two cents worth. Shaving is company policy. Has nothing to do with the union. When you have representation and say, in a company. You choose your battles. Drivers at UPS get the best pay and highest wages in the industry. They don't mind shaving for that. Even if you don't shave, nothing is going to happen to you. I've worked for four LTLs. UPS Freight had the absolute most laid back atmosphere of any one I've worked. While at the non union companies, we were constantly told lies about the union companies, how bad they were and going to one was the worst thing you could do. Like I said, they were all lies.

My buddy I was referring to works at UPS (package/"Brown") not UPS Freight. The reason I brought up the shaving deal wasn't the rule itself but that a fellow driver called him out about it (and not in a joking way). I seriously doubt that would happen at UPS Freight.
There are definite culture differences between the two companies despite being under the same corporate umbrella. Freight drivers are typically more laid back and have a sense of humor whereas about 80% of Brown drivers tend to be humorless cop-types. I don't mean to offend cool cops or cool Feeder drivers (my friend is one), but I think you probably know what I'm talking about.
