I’ve got a lot of questions about this thread. I’d gladly pay one $300 ticket for parking on a on-ramp vs. killing someone because I was tired and there was no parking at a TS.
I’d like to see a group/union/lawyer sue the shipper for a 7 hour load time, and then telling the driver he’s late while the carrier pushed the driver to still make an unrealistic delivery appointment all the while subtly threatening his financial stability if he refuses the load.
I’d like to see politicians notice that drivers are being forced to do more with less, including closing parking areas/rest stops to truckers etc while HOS doesn’t reflect the demands of “just in time” manufacturing or shipping requirements of a public that thinks everything they order should be there the next day.
I don’t know the answers, or all the questions. I assume many will disagree with this...but the reality I see on the 5/10/101 et.al is that this is a problem that drivers are forced to make, actual business decisions while tired and pressured in a split second with dire consequences.
I’m probably wrong.

On ramps yes, cuz drivers are accelerating and well rested. Off ramps, hell no.
I always park with no lights on, when on a ramp. That way cars won’t drive into me, thinking theyre following a moving truckflood Thanks this. -
You would think so. Sometimes driving through the night I get drowsy and need to park somewhere for a few hours.
Had to take a ramp a few times driving overnight. Of course everything legal was filled to 120% capacity. So there I went to take my chances on the ramp.
Its either that or drive with fatigue...Pumpkin Oval Head and Oldironfan Thank this. -

Just park on the “on” ramp when possible. Vehicles exit at 65+, but usually get on around 10 mph. In fact, due to the shipper taking 5 hrs to load me, I’ll end up on one tonight......

GA really needs to start building massive truck lots like what Indiana is doing. We dont even need amenities. Just give us pavement off the interstate. How hard can it be? I dont get it. We dont need much. We arent tourists. We are used to doing without.IndianaF150 Thanks this. -
I think the reason some states make it illegal is because of the littering

it is illegal to park on the freeway and ramps are part of the freeway
