I've seen stories from two different news outlets in the past week or so in regards to the shortage of truckers.

Says they are offering sign on bonuses and increased total earnings. One story mentioned lowering the driving age from 21 to 18 b/c there's such a shortage.

One of the stories mentioned earnings in the 60-70k range w/ sign on of 4k and increased benefits.

Has anyone that's a rookie seen this kind of movement within the industry? Thanks and that's a big 10-4!

It would be nice if these young drivers can come on board and deliver some of these loads. Especially the loads going to Detroit, Chicago and Atlanta.

It’s definitely a drivers market these days. Ten years ago you took what you could get but now you have a whole lot of options.

You know, they could decrease the shortage. More pay is always a plus, but they should adjust the requirements some to get people into the industry. Some companies make it an act of Congress to get a job there. They want you to be a perfect saint without any type of criminal record or history if drug use. I mean, people do turn their lives around

I agree with you in general. However in over 90% of the cases it is not the company. They have the FMCSA as well as the Insurance carriers that regulate them. Then add to this some carriers have to satisfy their customers.

You're right about that. I think it's reached a point to where they should reexamine these regs. They could afford to modify some of them.
