I carry around a bluetooth speaker (since I'm a local driver...we slip seat and some of our trucks don't have radios) and use the free FM Radio app...but you HAVE TO use a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable in order to receive broadcast...because it works as an antenna. Not the best signal connection, but it's free though. Doesn't use any data...nor does it drain your battery. If I get sick of listening to the radio or have weak connections, I'll just hook my iPod 160 Classic and listen to my music this way. It's still ticking and haven't even come remotely close to filling the whole 160 gig.

Which bluetooth speaker do you have. I need to upgrade, was looking at a Bose but now JBL offering one with a battery that lasts 24 hours. They are too handy whether for work as well as the beach, boat, deck, outhouse

    I use this bluetooth speaker.....

    https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-A320-Wireless-Speakers-Subwoofer/dp/B01HLSMVTQ

It has a built-in subwoofer and it is LOUD!!! Bass actually hurts my ears.

I use to have the JBL Charge 3. It was OK...but wasn't loud enough...nor did it have enough bass.

Edit...just realized it's currently unavailable...but you can go on eBay too. It's actually cheaper on eBay. I bought two of them for around $100 bucks.

I download podcasts on my laptop then transfer them to a dedicated $30 mp3 player which connects to truck stereo by Aux-in cable. My phone is a backup to the above.

I can connect my smartphone to truck stereo by bluetooth or Aux-in cable. I don't like to be touching my phone while driving. You never know who's watching. That ticket is bad.

I connect through bluetooth. I used to use the Aux in jack but i found the sound quality to be much better over Bluetooth and i have one less wire trailing over my dash.

Ah, gotta love Apple's proprietary garbage.... 'we make it different so you can buy 40 things you shouldn't need!'.... But you're special & an elite shopper!

    /sarcasm

    The hell is that?

Deutsche Industrie Norm (DIN) (German Industrial Standard) doesn't have much at all to do with Apple (see 'proprietary garbage' above), despite having a lot to do with audio, especially aftermarket stereo head-units for automobiles & their WxLxD measures.... Unless I'm missing something? Is the 3.5mm DIN?... And still, who the hell here knew what DIN was before now? Lol.

Any cable from phone that ends in 3.5mm male to AUX Jack will get the job done.

In most cases this particular set-up acts as a charger & not a player.

Not sure a 1/8" would work since it's only 3.2mm. See this (below) then go buy a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable..... again, that proprietary garbage.... can't anything be standardized with Apple fools. Trying to reinvent the wheel.

I sold car audio for 10 years. Old habits die hard.

Boy you guys make it so complicated.

First if you have a blue tooth headset, you are half way there, most of them allow you to run music through them.

Second if no headset, then most trucks from 2010 on have radios with bluetooth connections, so you pair the iphone up to it and good to go.

Those are the really good ways to go. I have a stereo headset (ear pods) that I use when I'm driving the pickup because it is a hands free phone headset too.

Third if you want to listen to pod casts, setup your podcast beforehand, you can select play next and add to play list (or something like that) with your podcast app. You can add as many as you like and skip over the ones you don't want to listen to.

Fourth, depending on your iphone capacity, you may want to clean it up every week.
