So if I pulled the same $20 sample at 300hrs and it said the oil was as good as the stuff in the jug, are you going to change it? That would be like changing your tires because they have 300000 miles on them even though they have half tread. If you sample regularly you can save a lot of money on oil changes by knowing exactly when it's getting too contaminated to use and pushing it to its limit...otherwise you're either taking good oil out or running bad oil too long

I wished I knew how often Cemex did the mixers.
That's the pretty much the dirtiest, dustiest environment I can think of.
Mixer turned on in the morning, didn't turn off until finished, rpms kicked up to 1500 while loading and mixing, turning that 50,000 pounds of concrete and steel drum.
I know it was a lot longer than 300 hours. All Cat's and Cummins ISM's.
Chevron Delo 15/40 mineral.
All trucks used about a gallon every two weeks, some more.
Idle all day when not being driven or mixing.
My one KW got 3.8 mpg lulz.
Can't recall anyone ever losing an engine.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Y'all don't have the extreme heat we do here... ie: 104 predicted this weekend... so yep, pulling a tank with an older tractor, sure will spend the money and do it head on. Just me.Oxbow and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Do you pull oil samples at 200? And by the time you get the results are you not already at 250?
I change at 250, and send in sample then.blairandgretchen, wore out and spsauerland Thank this. -
Cat service interval is 250hrs. oil and filter every 250hrs and fuel filters on the 500hr services.
C15 I recommend 20,000km or 250hrs. oil samples also provide a knowledge of wealth and build a trend that paints the picture of your engines health at very little cost. it gives you a fighting chance to prepare for and rectify any issues before they're a catastrophic failure.
you oil sample will inform you if your operation environment or oil used re breaking down before the service interval. if that's the case closer intervals or better oil are the options, assuming no fault like fuel dilution is the cause.
I've Personally used oil samples to show a client the oil they were using was breaking down by 200hrs and not lasting the full service interval. when the engine oil broke down it became acidic and started leaching copper out of the oil cooler and allowing a greater carbon build up. it was plain as day in the sample report.Oxbow and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
