Driver backing while talking on cell phone

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by gentleroger, Jul 5, 2018.

You watch a "driver" backing into while talking on a handheld phone. Do you call his company?

I team drive and if there is tight spot I will get out the truck and have him (driver) call me so I can help him back and park. Is that a problem?

I say do what ever works for you guys. I'd much rather have you making sure he doesnt hit my truck than for you to sit in the bunk while he backs into my hood.

Others are too worried that because they arent allowed to do something,. they get upset when they see someone else doing what they think isnt fair. People can be spiteful and believe they are right by getting into someone elses business.

The classic,.. "I'm not trying to tell you what to do speech". Ok hoss,.. let me stop you right there.

I thought that should be self explanatory. Hence,.. the Moral of the story.

You'll get the electric chair if you hurt his self-esteem. I say a few dead innocent people is a small price to pay for self esteem.

There is the rub, he was all over the place and came close to hitting trailers on both sides (unlined lot, spot was almost big enough for two trailers). It was the only thing that made me look twice at the guy. I figured he was a new driver and I got out to help spot him in. Otherwise I generally live and let live.

That I have no problem with. You are both looking at the same things. I would hazard to guess the other guy is also using bluetooth/speaker phone, not trying to one hand the steering wheel.

If he didn't hit anything, move on. If he hit someone, make sure the whole world knows he was on his cell phone. Its not illegal til something happens.

With Elogs making the industry safe and eliminating wrecks, I would assume he wouldn't hit anything. Unless he was on paper logs, then that explains the poor backing technique.
