Being experienced and good at what you do doesn't make you a jerk. Refusing to acknowledge that you were once a rookie, does indeed make you a jerk.
Had a guy working here where I work for a while. He was about 15 years older than me. Pretty nice fellow outside of work, one that you could go drink a beer with on weekends. The moment he crawled behind the wheel, he became a super trucker. Knew everything and didn't hesitate to tell you.
Boss sent me to a new place one night, told me to call super trucker for directions. So I call him and ask for directions. He spends ten minutes reading me the riot act for not knowing where the place was. Never did give me the directions, I ended up calling the place for directions. All because he wanted to try and prove he was so much better than I.
I got the last laugh though. I was the youngest in the company at the time, but had more seniority than he did. So when I was given the keys to a new truck, and he was given my old one, he cried like a baby until the boss fired him.
Anyway, life is too short to spend your time talking down to everyone around you. And you eventually find no one who will listen. I've tried it both ways. Being a jerk is no fun
So is it a unwritten rule

I'll tell you what. This one time I pickrd up a trailer from a dirt lot just about a rocks throw from being the middle of no where. I wasn't allowed to know what was in the trailer but I was getting paid to take it 50,000 miles at top dollar by golly!!!!! Best check I ever got!!! I can't say too much about it. Because if I do I'll get prison time! But you can bet your right walnut I'll do it again!

Sounds believable except the 50,000 miles part. That's near 6 months driving.

I haven't had a chance to read all of the replies but the few I have read, I enjoyed. But I will say this, in all seriousness I never have and never will get the whole "I'm better than you" attitude, strictly because of time put into something. I don't care how much time I've got into something, I'm just not the type to be a dick for any other reason than "being a dick." I've had my fair share of times where I've let another person know I feel about them, and I have no problem doing so when the situation is justified, but outside of that, I just flat don't care enough to attempt to gloat or prove anything to anyone. Just doesn't razzle my berries I guess.
QuietStorm and ProfessionalLunatic Thank this. -
I prefer not to say anything about how someone else does their job unless they really need it.
Had a trucker backing to a dock, he got it all off. They called me up to move his truck over, he was off the mark by 6 inches. When I got to talk to him, I told him that the yellow lines on are where he needs to plant the outside of the box. And when you don't have those, GOAL.

Still stands I won't say anything inlunl I need too. He was a new hire, first day of training. -
When I first started driving there was this other driver that was always hanging around the terminal acting bad and talking smack about everything and everybody. He wore a full length leather duster coat (think Clint Eastwood in a western movie) and made sure everybody could see that we was packing heat under it by the big lump protruding from his belt line. So one night I'm walking from my truck into the terminal and he's there at the side of his truck putting on his coat and I see his sidearm which turned out to be a huge wallet on a chain attached to his belt. A week later he was telling us all how he had some guy threatening him at a truck stop and how he pulled out his gun and the guy p issed himself. He couldn't figure out why we were all laughing at him and then one of the guys grabbed his wallet from the outside of his coat and asked why would somebody p iss their pants if you pointed your wallet at them? He said F you all and stormed out, never to brag to us again.
QuietStorm and ProfessionalLunatic Thank this.
