One of my most treasured skills other than mountain work is the honed experience in battle horsing a big truck where necessary to save a life and property where possible. I have been extremely lucky and feel blessed with such a good tool in my driving over the years.

Other than getting good sleep, I advocate cameras that face outwards so that whatever comes up making it necessary to unpack and deploy a decision in a few seconds time to get it done will all be there on tape.

When I say I cannot accept such a employer, those kinds of people automatically think I am some kind of black hat trouble maker enemy. Nothing cannot be further from the truth. However I am not PC and I do enjoy and actually relax a touch when that trailer is coming around a little bit for a good reason.

A SEVERE lack of training also plays a role, companies make trainers out of newly minted CDL holders after only 90 days on the job...sooner than that, even, at some companies if they sign their life away with a lease purchase scam. ALL of those issues can be solved WITHOUT sticking a camera in the face of good drivers everywhere. All the camera does is allow finger-pointing after the fact. Have you ever reached for your coffee? Changed the station on the radio? Eaten a sandwich? Looked at your notes to see what exit you're looking for? Swatted a bug that was in your truck? Fail to put your seatbelt on after getting out to look when backing into a dock? Etc., etc., etc... Now stick a camera in your face. If you accidently trigger the camera by hitting a pothole or dip in the road even 1 out of 1000 times you are momentarily distracted, you'll likely have a 5 minute long string of 8 second clips showing nothing but your "distracted" driving in only a few months. You may think you're the perfect driver and never do anything wrong behind the wheel, but I guarantee you are not. NOBODY is.

I'm just playing devil's advocate trying get others to think about how they're going to defend their position and hopefully wake a few up because at our current deadly distracted driving crash rates, they're coming, and not to prove distracted driving, but to try and stop it before it causes a problem.

I've said all I'm going to say on the subject. I don't have much longer to go so I'm not worried about them personally.

Expecting Truckers to be perfect human being is just ignorant. According to you, ROBOT drivers will be better for the Country (and maybe so in terms of liability), but wer're a long way from that. In the Mean-time (us drivers who aren't retiring soon) are going to have to put up with it. Thanks "for caring!"

Print a color face pic of yourself sitting in the truck with a big goofy grin. Take a wire or rod and mount the pic so that the camera points at the picture and also blocks your actual face out. I saw them do something similar on the old Mission Impossible TV show. This is your mission if you decide to accept it

Or buy a smart phone with a 4K quality video which far exceeds normal camera resolutions, Install a looping smiling gif of about maybe 20 seconds long set to shuffle with various smiles of several videos to repeat emdlessly a few inches from a driving facing camera.

You don't even need to activate a good throw away.

But now you're injured in the crash. They have video proof that you were violating company policy AND the law committing an act you (as a professional driver) KNOW to be dangerous, increasing the likelihood of a crash. They might then use that to fight any workers comp claims you'll try to file as a result of injuries you caused to yourself through your own willful and negligent actions (again, in violation of company policy and the law).

They may or may not be successful, but you're out of work with medical bills piling up...and now you've got to add legal bills on top of all of that. Good luck.
