You may plan on running intrastate but make sure when you get your med card you select interstate just in case you every leave the state in a CMV.

Thanks. 2 of my main reasons for thinking about this seriously is #1, travel. I wouldn't mind busting my ### for 4 weeks at a time and then getting 2-4 days off. And #2, to travel back east more often. I'm not sure how popular coast to coast runs are, or even if they have that many with trains carrying those intermodel (I think) containers. I'm going to contact CRST tomorrow and see what they have to offer. Figure it's between them, Swift or paying for the CDL

Even for a starting rate .23 is terrible, Snider was offering .26 some 5 years ago. Also have you looked at the job board at the top of this website, punch in your city and then it will ask for your experience level, such as " need training" I've only done that a dozen times now as I look to the future, it gave me a nice list . Just more info to help you judge , Super service has advertised .35, Roehl .34. TA .37 all for new students.COBB2070 Thanks this.

I started at .40 cpm loaded at FFE. .35 cpm empty. They have a terminal in SLC. I've never been to that one, but it's off I-15 and 35th South... I think if I remember right. They will bus or fly you to Dallas TX and train you there in exchange for a 1 year commitment. It is also a reefer outfit like CRE, but pays better.

If you are really willing to bust your ### don't sell yourself short at CRE.
Part of my training I delivered to the terminal in NJ. The terminal wasn't my favorite, but the truck stop we went to while we waited for our next load was my favorite. I miss that place. Always grabbed shower, ate at the Iron Stomach. That terminal always had a habit of calling us right when I laid down to sleep telling us our trailer is ready. I'd wait and wait and wait... then as soon as I gave up and laid down *ring ring*. My trainer always give me #### saying... well if you would just lay down already we can get our trailer and be on our way.
Now I make a lot more on the account I working but I get no Iron Stomach. Just Loves and their Subway. -
Me neither man. Couldn't tell you a thing about that State. I do know they have their own set of rules. CRST does training there fyi but team freight only which can be nightmarish with stranger's.COBB2070 Thanks this.

Thanks for all the info guys. I did the CRST application and spoke with the recruiter. Basically I have to decide if I want to train in CA, where I'd have to change my license from NV, or they'd bus me to CO or Iowa. I also have the option of having the state of CA pay for part or all of the CDL as part of job retraining meaning if or some reason I couldn't pass the test, I wouldn't be stuck and broke somewhere seeing as I would have to sell my truck because I wouldn't be able to take it with me (if I base out of the east) and have to put the rest of my stuff in storage for a year or two. I'll update more soon.

If CA will pay for your training/school I'm thinking these guys will come up with better options for companies than you mentioned. You may want to look at going the tech college route or a good private school. I thought Crete took new students that went through an approved school.
COBB2070 Thanks this. -
They actually have a contract with a school in Riverside, CA, but that would mean a 100 mile daily round trip drive. It's not so much the driving, but CRST would be putting me up with others of like mind. Find the serous ones and study with them. And by looking at some of the posts, I could probably graduate and drive for 3-6 months and bounce someplace else. I'll look into Crete, and it's going to be a bit before I go, so I could contact companies I see which ones would be willing to buy out the CRST contract if it came down to it. But with being ne to trucking 3-6 months minimum with a co-driver with a little more experience would be wise.

@otterinthewater could fill you in on the swift Fontana school. He has a thread currently regarding that school.
