They most likely routed from that address to a repair shop.

BUT here is the problem, you really voided the warranty by opening it up, I don't get why you would (and please don't tell me that you had to).

Surprise that they actually did anything to it.

Come on Ridge have to turn up the modulation to be heard. I bought a Galaxy 45 MP back in early 2000 ( still have it) and the finals went( bad 1969's I was told) and they replaced them with new ones even though the radio had been opened up for 11 meter conversion and tuneup so I guess its up to the discretion of the service center providing warrenty work.

There's really no way they would know....hence why I turned the VR4 back to where the factory had it. The fact that I turned up VR4 had zero to do with the internal speaker to quit working. I'm smart enough to know that, and hope you would be too.

Are you ok with brand new electronics malfunctioning? You don't believe in having stuff repaired under warranty...when you KNOW anything you did is irrelevant to the issue?

Most people I know have them tuned the 1st day they buy them...which requires having to open it up. Maybe I like to get a little more performance out of my personal belongings. I didn't come on here looking to get preached to. I came on here because I've read this forum for a long time before I joined and knew there was some helpful people on here who know more about CB's than I do.

I too have turned up vr4( AMC) and as I posted on the thread " Big Loud Radio" a trusted receiving station really didnt notice significant modulation improvement over stock setting. When checking the radio with a meter carrier was 4 watts ,pep to 12 watts stock ( 75%) with vr4 all the way counter clockwise pep was 18 watts so it did increase wattage but doubt that increase really improved range much, just my 2 cents.

The Cobra 29 service manual says to adjust modulation to 100% with 30mV, 1khz sine wave applied to mic input so blindly adjusting vr4 to max or just shy of it , at best , is guessing.

Yes, BUT...almost everything I've ever read about tuning on a 29 included VR4 being turned up. As stated earlier, had I had someone adjust anything else, such as L14, the wax coating would have been noticeably disturbed...the warranty certified person would have seen it and declined warranty service. When the warranty expires, I may or may not have a professional shop work their magic.

I'm not an OTR driver, so maxing out the CB isn't a priority....just like it to perform a little better than stock. I've always done the same with my vehciles, dirtbikes, ATV's, guns and even my lawn equipment.

But that's not the topic of this thread. Simply was curious as to why the ANT light would come on after "they" repaired it. Nothing about the truck or antenna setup changed and the light didn't come on before it was repaired. It works fine, both transmitting and receiving. Just that light comes on now and didn't before.

Thanks for the write-up GoldDot. I'd guess that the tech discovered a failed ground relating to the speaker malfunction, and maybe his added wire was the easiest "fix" which must have got the speaker going again. In the process, however, the fix may have thrown some other little thing out of wack that causes the antenna light to come on. Sounds like one of my repairs.

I'd adjust the SWR with an external meter and forget the light. If it bothered me, I'd do what I've done on bothersome car warning lights that I know to be faulty: put a piece of electrical tape over it.

The only CB warrant work I've had was a on Cobra 19. It was probably too cheap to fix, so they sent me a new one, but it was an updated model that has been working well ever since.

All's well that ends well, sez me.

Well, another symptom I just took notice to. I don't have this thing on ALL the time so I evidently haven't had it on while using the power windows. Also must not have rolled the windows down or adjusted my mirrors with the CB on since I got it back.

I'm getting noise through the CB now whenever I operated the power windows and side mirrors. Certainly an issue it didn't do before "they" worked on it. I'm certain this is a ground issue, which would also explain the ANT light coming on. So....where should I add a more solid ground to?

OK you want a little advice, get someone who has an antenna analyzer to check the antenna.

Why would the antenna be perfectly fine before and not now? Not being a ########...legitimate question.
