Well now is the time to close this thread with the opening of the next leg of my journey.
Currently I am waiting for a call from the recruiter regarding my travel arrangements. Either this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning, I will be jumping on a company truck (not a bus) and heading to Fargo, ND. (yeah, I know..... gonna be cold...... brrrrr)
I have decided to go with Magnum Logistics, a refrigerated company, out of Fargo. I actually got turned onto them by someone who has become (in my opinion) a good friend who also frequents this board. Through the last few weeks, I have been in touch with him as he made his way through orientation and training, and his reports pretty much helped me make my decision.
They are a rather strong, small company (in comparison to others), but there is an aire of "family" that I did not experience with the other recruiters. I have had several conversations with the recruiter and the local terminal manager and I have to say, they are some of the nicest people I have spoken with in the trucking industry. Also, their equipment, safety record, and turnover rates are fantastic (or so I have found). Perhaps not the most phenomenal cpm, but that will grow as time goes on. Sometimes you have to weigh everything out in order to make the best decision. And 2 cents per mile is a good exchange for the advantages I will experience. Plus, with the monthly bonus, it will more than outweigh the offset.
They have a few freight lanes that pass near my house making hometime a lot easier to get. Linda and Scooter will be able to travel with me, as will my Daddy (majorly important). No NYC, No Canada, and No Mexico.
The list goes on and on, but the bottom line is that Magnum is the perfect fit for me and I can't wait to get going. By the middle of next week, I should be rolling out of the terminal with my trainer (as long as I can get through orientation) and heading down the road for my first load. I am actually glad it is working out the way it is because this will give me snow and ice experience right off the bat. And as time goes on, the road conditions will just get easier. So this is a good thing.
I will have my laptop with me and I should be able to get on the net fairly regularly, so I will keep ya'll updated as I go. Not sure when my next post will be, but I'll be back!
See ya'll out there!
Oh yeah, the CB handle (if you hadn't already figured it out) will be ScooterDawg. I'll be in a blue Peterbilt 387 pulling a Magnum trailer. 6'2", 290lbs wearing a camoflage ballcap. If you see me, c'mon over and say hi. I'd love you meet you!
Happy trails!

Good luck to you. I also was impressed by this company when the Greensboro terminal manager came out to the school I went to. Seemed like a nice guy. You guys run a lot of meat loads right? Are you pulling a reefer or dry van?
ScooterDawg Thanks this. -
Yeah I was impressed by Drew as well. Really nice guy. He was definately one of the factors in my decision
From the sounds of it, I am going to be pulling reefer. At least that is what I am being told right now. I should know more come Monday or Tuesday. Yeah they pull a lot of meat. They tell me they do a lot for McD's, so we'll see what happens.
Hope to run into you out there. If all goes well, I should have my truck by the end of the month, but I am not going to assume anything. Just gonna roll with motion.
Talk to you soon! -
Congratulations man. I wish you the best in your new adventure and i hope you can find the time to keep everybody up to date on your journey. GOOD LUCK MAN...........

I have every intention of staying in touch and letting ya'll know how it goes. It will just depend on connectability. But you'll be hearing more from me.
Oh Yeah..... GO STEELERS!!!!!! (sorry..... had to!)(I was born in Pittsburgh)(it just comes naturally hehehehehe) -
Kudos on the Steeler remark. Next year they are going for the bakers half dozen in SB's. -
Hey Scooterdawg,
It's been acouple of days since I have been able to get on here and read some of your updates, glad to hear that everything has worked out for you and that you have received your quest. A CDL A, seems to me that you look really happy in that picture.
Congratulations on getting through everything with a great manner of a opened mind. It really does have alot to do with how you go into anything, I have great news for you my friend I finished class on Thursday and took my road test and passed with only receiving 1 point on the alley dock backing.
Yes, I did like the instructor told me, if the trailer starts to get close to the cone then just take it out for 1 point and put it in the box, and that,s what I did. My GPA for the class was 99, and I was the first person he said to receive a 100% on the final examination since he has been teaching there. That really made my day, my instruction was really impressed with my knowlegde of the trucking industry and wanted to know if I have driven before and I told him that I had about 20 years ago and that I let my CDL's expire when entering the Military.
I will never let them expire again, it cost to much to get them back, my instructor and I devoloped a really good friendship and I believe that we will stay in touch. I had the highest GPA in the class. So the instructor allowed me to pick the order that everyone was tested. So I agreed and made myself last, one of the other guys was having a hard time so I choose him to go 2nd to give him time on the range to practice, after hearing how he did on his test and not to mention taking out a snow bank on a 180 degree turn around he still was passed. I told the instructor that I would have failed him and re-tested next week, that could have been a car a family and he would have never knew he hit them because he never checked to see where his trailer was.
I thought you went with Conway, change of mind I see, all the other guys in my class went with WERNER, not this boy, I still have been looking for something local don't know to many companies in this area that are hiring, I have several years of experience driving but they only see NEWBIE because I had to get my CDL all over.
Come Monday I will start making some phone calls to see what I can do, and if plan A doesn't work then I will go to plan B, and see what it has to offer.
If anyone know of local companies in this area that maybe be hiring driver let me know, it's appreciated, looking for a company that does not run Canada, NYC, Mexico they are not worth all the headaches and trouble that truckers have to put up with, not from the canada side it usually the American side.
Scooterdawg THANKS FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL READINGS I REALLY ENJOY WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY, AS WELL AS EVERYONE INPUT.
JACK
