I have moved into the skills portion of the school and for some reason on my straight line backing I'm veering to the left at the end and hitting the back left cone. I am not sure if possibly adding a cone would help or not. I realize that real world situations don't use cones. We seem to have one more cone on the right then the left. I am not sure if being left handed has anything to do with it I will be back at working on this again in the morning. I am determined to get this right. They are telling us we have until Saturday to learn all six maneuvers and road driving up to par or we are send home. I have not had experience with a standard transmission until this week.

If you’re veering to the left it means the steering wheel is too far right and you have to turn it a bit to the left to get back on track. Just a bit though. Watch your mirrors closely and once it starts to veer to one side give the wheel a quick bump to the same side to get it back on track.

Keep the trailer in both mirrors. Back slowly, move steering wheel little bits 1" to 2" Max. When in doubt STOP, Also

The trick to straight line back is. Keep moving the steering wheel from like 9am to 3pm or maybe it was 10am to 2pm position. The trick is never stop moving the steering wheel back and forth from the same position and the trailer will keep going straight.
You want the tractor to keep swinging left and right none stop. That will keep the trailer straight. Just make sure you pick the same spot on steering wheel like 10am and 2pm with you hand and keep moving the wheel none stop.jdavis0036 and NYCNick Thank this. -
Perhaps you're concentrating on one mirror more than the other.
Keep your focus bouncing to and fro.
Not like a crazy man.. but steady and smooth.
If you look in any direction long enough, you'll veer that way.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I would also suggest when checking both mirrors if you glance at the back of your sleeper, you should be able to see the front of the trailer protruding out if you're trailer is getting out of line of the truck, indicating you need to make a slight correction.

when I'm doing a straight line back I make sure that once I'm lined up straight with what I want to back up to that I keep the view of my trailer the exact same in both mirrors unless an adjustment is needed... I can't do the whole "keep the wheel moving" technique very well... But have used it when backing a long distance over rough uneven terrain.
Edit: of course this only works because I have my mirrors adjusted just so.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
I was better at it before I got in the Cascadia.
The mirrors seem to distort things a bit, and I never end up really straight.
It's the position of the mirrors, or something. But one side is always different in this truck.line Thanks this. -
Just open the door and stand on the step aiming to get as close as you can to the left come . You don’t need that right mirror
