I'm young. Probably younger than most everyone here. If any of you think I should be getting a degree or starting a family instead of trucking, I've already heard it all. Nothing seems to be working in my life right now. Maybe trucking holds the answers.
lived most my life in Orem Utah. 20 years, but I've never belonged there. I don't even belong in my own family. That's what it's like to have a developmental disorder such as aspergers. Not even your own flesh and blood knows you. I gave up trying to speak their language.
There are few things I love. I love my God, and I love my privacy. I've solved many of my problems while driving alone. Perhaps spending several years in a tractor-trailer will help me think of a solution to this quandary I call my life.
With a brand new registration at a technical college, and an undying gratitude to the sponsor who paid for it, I'll start my CDL course a month from now. 4 weeks later, God willing, I'll be on the road.
New to trucking, I dare to hope.

Driving will most likely be a great fit for you. Congrats on your first step.

I would go for it if I were you.
Ok, you will be surrounded by people that turn off their brain when they get behind the wheel and "just do" stuff, stupid stuff, all day long around you. But, they are out of arms reach and can't hear you.
You decide when you want to stop and eat or whatever. You have to be somewhere at a certain time, but it's up to you to figure that out.
Much different from the 9-5 grind atmosphere... Longer hours though.justa_driver Thanks this. -
You may have found your niche'.
From what you describe, trucking is right up your alley.
All you need is common sense and a drive to succeed.
If you love a lot of solitary time... you're gonna get it. You'll find out if you're truly a loner, or not.
Degrees are basically worthless in this day and time.. most of us know that.
If you get one in a very desirable field you have a shot, but most plunk one down in markets that are way over saturated and wonder why they're underemployed.
You'll make as much, or more, in trucking than 80% of college grads.
Good luck. We're here for you when you need us.justa_driver Thanks this. -
Welcome aboard and best wishes!

Hi Moonbeast,
I can somewhat relate. Although I'm 50, I still feel like I'm trying to find my niche and I'm thinking trucking might be it. Although I wouldn't be OTR, I like the idea of spending most of my day alone behind the wheel. I've wondered about being somewhere on the Asperger's spectrum myself.
Good luck!
