Yes it is a little more congested in he Eastern half of the country, but you still have truck stops that are pretty far from towns. Traveling many points west of Dallas, Houston, or Oklahoma City for instance, you will still be finding truck stops in the middle of nowhere.

So both your parents quit their jobs, got a job making "much less" than they made and it's not their fault?
There is an easy answer to that. Don't quit until a new, just as good job is lined up. Not to sound like an a-hole but this is 100% what I am talking about with personal responsibility.
They both quit without having a plan. How is that not their doing? They made decisions, bad ones, and now she is paying for it.Wargames, gentleroger and Coover Thank this. -
But 99% of them have a phone they’d let someone use for free or give them directions to the nearest bus stop or public transit.
We can respectfully go back and forth all day. You’re right, some are pretty far out and hey, if that’s the case I hate it for him. On that same token he either should have not screwed up his only ride or B had get home money. Without knowing everything all anyone can do is speculate. -
There was a study recently that said most ppl can't afford a $400 emergency. School is expensive, and sometimes training is without pay... Broke from working a min wage job that in ZERO states will afford a 2 bedroom rental, wait 2 weeks for school to start, 4 weeks in school, 2 weeks on the road before first check comes in... So, 6 or 8 weeks in and you've got nothing left, still waiting for your first paycheck, and something happens... How would you handle that? I don't know why the guy got left behind, but many of you have said that some trainers are just mean and rude. Maybe the guy refused to do something illegal and the trainer kicked him, we don't know. I feel for the guy. I hope he gets some help, and I hope he finds a way out of his issues.

Get ready for the backlash brother. You're going to get a wave of "They chose to be poor." "They should get a better job." The thing is, people get criticized for not working. When they finally get a job, even though it's minimum wage, they still get criticized, folks are trying. Not every person is going to make it. More people than not will need help from those that have it. It's funny to me when those who work the minimum wage jobs get crucified. Wait til they go to the truck stop and they have to wait for a shower to get cleaned. Some of you will blow your top. Or they get fuel, and they need a fuel receipt but there is only one person working and he/she is helping a customer. Then it's, " why won't they hire more people?" How may of you gone to Walmart and waited forever in day to check out because of so few workers? Point is, we need people to do these jobs. We should not spit on them because of what they do. They are trying but for reasons unbeknownst to us, that's what they do for money and we don't need to talk bad on them.MBAngel and SavageMuffin Thank this.

My dad did have a back up. He made a lot less money but they had savings so it should have gotten them through. He could not have predicted that out of his 10 brothers and sisters, that NO ONE would help them in any way, shape or form with their father. He did what he had to do to take care of the man that helped make him the man he was. My father DIED unexpectedly. The pay cut by quitting is not what did her in. The UNEXPECTED life events of people being unable to take care of themselves (and no one else bothering to help out) and DEATH are factors that couldn't have been predicted. My dad died at the age of 59. Went in to his first day at his dream job (that would have paid a lot more) and never came home. My mom is a widow that isn't old enough to collect the benefits she needs. My mom had to pay medical bills, a funeral and then put her life back together.
