Ask for a "dedicated" run. This way you'll get plenty of miles. Remember, cpm isn't the only pay you receive; accessorial pays are on top of that. Each company has their own setup for accessorial pays.
A few CRST drivers have posted on here that were hired for cdl school followed by a Caterpillar dedicated run. Couple of them said they run as hard as they can coast to coast hauling Caterpillar parts and equipment.bdg31020 Thanks this. -
My first job would make CRST look like a dream job. My cut of a team run was .0850 cpm. which wasn't even close to being half. I was told I should stay there a year, but I never believe everything I hear. Every time we stopped for fuel or whatever, I picked up a few of those little books with driver jobs. They had those little postage paid cards you fill out and mail. I was mailing those in by the dozens it seemed like. About 3 months later Pro-Craft called me for a job hauling boats, 48 states. I jumped on it and hit the road. Did that for a year, then switched to reefers running 48 states and did that for about 18 years, making good paychecks. We're not all carbon copies of each other when it comes to life experiences, so we do what we have to do to get started in a new career and make it work for us.sassy_southern_trucker, mjd4277 and bdg31020 Thank this.
