Sorry, but I need to correct a few responses here (not steppin on your toes RT):

No NYC = Manhattan. All other Burroughs are open and yes we go there. Long Island; we go there too. Hunts Point in the Bronx, we go there also.

No Canada = only one Driver does Canada; Quebec, Ontario, Manatoba, and Alberta. Driver is on a dedicated account out of NY State.
When he went on vacation last May, I did his Winepeg and Edmonton run. Quite interesting. Got $450 Layover pay and 4450 mile paid trip cause it was round trip. Loaded going out, empty coming back. Took 11 days and yes I got a 36 hr reset in Edmonton before I delivered (Canada's reset is 36 while USA is 34).

I haven't seen this posted yet but as of 1-30-09 KLLM is requiring Haz Mat Endorsement again for all new hires and current Drivers. The latter has until 3-31-09 to get it. The company will still reimburse until 3-31-09. After this date, it comes out of the Driver's pocket. And yes, still get $25 for Pick-up and $25 for Delivery.

The reason for this is they are getting us more loads that are Haz Mat so we don't sit and they have to pay Layover Pay. I myself have Haz Mat and always have during my Driving career and the company's Haz Mat customers don't really have anything that dangerous. One thing I was shocked at in a Haz Mat load I got was this:

Soft Drinks (Coke and Pepsi for sure) is HAZ MAT. It's the ingredients to make it which is hauled in LARGE quantities. Once in the single serving size, it's NOT hazardous.

The only Haz Mat Classes the company will NOT haul is Class 1 (Explosives), Class 7 (Radioactive), and Inhalation Hazard. All other Classes we will haul. What I have hauled as being the most dangerous to me is Class 5.2 (Inorganic Peroxides). That is done by the Driver mentioned above on the dedicated Canadian runs. And yes, the one I did for him while Driver on vacation was 5.2.

    Baack Thanks this.

Well, my orientation date was February 16th and they called me yesterday morning to tell me that they are cancelling that and they have no idea when they will start orientations again. They said that they are short trainers. They said to try calling them in march to see if they could reschedule me.

Well that certainly sucks the big one. I might have to find another company to go to. I can't just sit around and wait with no job. I was really set on KLLM so this is a major bummer for sure.:biggrin_2553:

That's the way I feel. I was really hoping for KLLM, but I can't sit around and wait until April. I have a March 2nd orientation set up now for Werner, but haven't heard the best of things about them. I really like TMC, but I'm not sure I want to get into flatbed during this economy. Anybody have any suggestions? This sucks!!!

I graduated last week with my CDL, I had a pre-hire letter from KLLM set for the first of March, which I didn't want to wait that long but was the soonest available date. Called them yesterday (Friday) and was told the orientation was still on but that it could change two weeks from now. The recruiter was rather vague so I am a little nervous.
I talked to a KLLM driver at a Pilot today he heard they are in a hiring freeze. I also have a pre-hire from Western Express, SWIFT and Werner. I really want to hold out for KLLM.

I would hold out; if you can.

Been with KLLM over 6 years and I have never seen it this busy as it is now. Got more loads and Drivers than we have Trucks. It was unfortunate that the older Trucks had to be turned in before the new Trucks came in.

With the economy gone sour and smaller Trucking companies going bankrupt, the freight is going to companies who have realigned themselves to continue on and KLLM has gotten its share of this freight along with others. Just 2 days ago it was annouced that 1 of our customers gave us more freight cause that customer lost one of its haulers due to the economy.
