Not sure if this still works. But in the late 80's Guy I worked for has an old tanker. IT was legal for the road. Local guy would take the trailer. Bring back I think it was 7200 gallons of fuel.
We would fuel out of the tanker. 25 trucks and most was back on the yard every day or second day.

The tax man also may check every so often to make sure you are not purchasing off road diesel. Or making you own "special blend".

I know of several one truck operations it works for. Got to shop for the diesel. You also have to find a good deal on your tank/tanks. Lots of 275 gal tanks go up for sale all the time. std. house tank. Line em up. 12 volt pump will deliver 10+/- gallons a minute. I know a fellow had thirty 55 gallons drums. Buy low, enjoy the savings. Plop that money down at the wrong time and it will be ###### all day long. Some companies will match the ts price, what good is that. Others will give up a pretty good price after working with them. That more than anything is the key. The willingness your supplier is to work with little ducks. A lot and I mean a lot won't give you more than the time of day, Keep looking and you will find one that will work with you and for you. Then you will save money. Free advice and worth every penny.

I was thinking that if I had several tanks that may work better.

How have to call around and see what I can find.

Nastc does seem like it's the best as far as fuel discount cards go, but as far as I know they want you to go to a meeting and if it's more than, say, 2 hours from Philadelphia, I'm not interested.

I think that it is in Tennessee or Kentucky?

I've heard of this happening, never has happened to me. I do have another smaller 1500 gallon tank for off road diesel. Use it for equipment and reefer units.

I imagine that would still work today, long as the tanker is registered.

Bag the idea, slow down to 65, save fuel. To much effort in the other way.

If your leased to someone you don’t have to go to any meetings......

If your running your own #s just make up a 1/2 assed inter company lease to your self and your all set.... they just ask to fax the 1st and last page of the lease.....

Selling bulk diesel to companies/ end users with tanks and calculating the cost for each customer was a job I held before I started driving. There are a lot of factors that go into the price you can get. As someone else said, truckload is where you'll see the most savings but that obviously requires a big tank which you can't just plunk down on your property. Having a smaller tank requires delivery by a pump trunk with a meter (surcharge) and non-standard tanks typically require a non-standard hose connection (surcharge). Obviously freight can be a massive factor depending on where you're located, how far the nearest fuel terminal is and which fuel suppliers have product at said terminal(s).

It sounds all good and dandy about buying bulk fuel but you don't buy it for your home unless your home is equipped for HazMat and if you have a spill you will have a clean up if you have any kind of accidents you will have a clean up no don't do it unless you're capable of creating a safe environment
