Does anyone know anything about the Bowman cb 930? My husband was wanting a Galaxy but a well intending friend gave him her fathers Bowman cb 930. I have Googled this thing and can't find anything on it except some cb secret. Should we even consider using this as a primary radio or continue on in getting the galaxy. Some experienced advice would greatly be appreciated.

I am pretty certain this is an old school radio from the 1970's with a Cybernet chassis....similar to a Midland/Kraco/Colt....is it a 23 ch or 40 ch?

I'd say if it works by all means use it, and then upgrade to a Galaxy when the time comes and keep the Bowman as a back up when/in case the Galaxy fails/gets stolen.

    Surprise,

I worked for a man named Bob Mananchi in Downey as a electronic display manager, the name of this company was Boman Industries.

Im not sure but that should be a 23 channel radio and I beleive they were actually made by Midland Electronics.

Most of Bomans business were am/fm cassette indash radios sold through chains like Chief Auto Parts, Kmart, etc... He also had the VW contract for a good number of years.

Back to the 930 it should be a perfectly servicable CB radio although it will probably be a 23 channel. The other thing is most of us rarely go above channel 23 anyway. There is no reason not to use it.

It is a hygain chassis, one 930 is a 23 channel and another version is a 40 channel. It is an -02 chassis for those old school people.

It is good enough for a truck.

Thank you guys for all your information. It was really helpful. Guess you can only do what you can with what you got, and the Bowman will get the job done until I get the Galaxy.

    Thanks again,

Most people don't know that the Galaxy the truckers want is the 2 digit radios. DX 88 etc. If its the DX 959 (3 digit) it's a regular 4 watt CB (yes you get them peeked higher. The 2 digits are "export" radios not intended for the US market, but with a minor modification and a peek n tune. you will find yourself in the 10-12 watt key range with your modulation swinging up to 40 watts. That's what they call a "Big Radio" lol

the Boman is a great radio... not made in 30+ years. I have a 23 channel Boman in my boat.

So the question I have is what kind of Galaxy are you getting? The regular DX959/979 type? The Boman will perform the same in this case. If you are getting a "big Radio" the Boman won't compete.

Another thing that most people don't know is that Ranger makes the boards for the Galaxy, General Lee and Conex. So if you see a radio in your price range any of these will talk out there just fine.

Striker and Magnum are also great "Big Radio's"... Any of these can cost $300 to $600 new. try to find a used one.
