From the time I’ve been driving I have found that the kenworth t680 has a very strong jake brake that does a great job at slowing you down on a steep hill. However I have driven 2 cascadias and the jake brake doesn’t do jack to slow you down. Even dropping gears does nothing the rpms skyrocket and you still gain speed. I mentioned this to a mechanic at the shop. The moron said it was working while he drove it through the parking lot. Of coarse it will work when you bobtail through a lot. But I told him going down a steep hill with 40,000 pounds it does nothing. I’m hoping swift will hook me up with a kenworth as that was what I trained on and it’s better than the freightliner. How are the jake brakes on peterbilt and Mack as I have not driven those. Everyone I’ve talked to says Kenworth and peterbilt are good trucks but freightliner and international suck. Actually I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything good about international.

I liked the Jake's on the isx and newer dd15. Compared to the older engines from 80s-90s they have great stopping power

My ISX is really strong. I think Volvo is the best though.

    Detroit are the worst.

I concur. If I'm not over 40k I don't even touch the foot brake.

It has more to do with which brand engine it has than brand of truck.

I was coming down the Deevide in Moantana on the 200 three or so years ago in January with 40K in the box on the way to Great Falls in Blackie.

Jake on high in 6th, snowing like 19 mofo's.
Now that thar stretch is pretty steep, 2 lane, switch backy.

Jake on high in 6th would bring the truck to basically a dead stop if I wanted it to.

There was a Weiner truck coming up the other way, and he looked like somebody stabbed him, and was mortaly terrified, I'm sure that was his trainer in the jump seat.

I was laughing when I went by him, but I don't think he saw any humor in the situation, and I'm certain he was insulting my ancestors.

The N14 cummins I have driven always had amazing Jake's on them. Haven't driven anything newer with a Cummins in it.
