I got this 1995 international 9400i. Yesterday I was driving the truck and everything was going good and then suddenly the truck was loosing power and started chocking and black smoke was coming out of the exhaust pipes and then the truck just turned off and won't turn back on, the engine turns and won't start up. I've tried putting starting fluid on it to see if it'll start up but it takes a lot of starting fluid for the truck to start and the truck would just and die right after. Please help me out !!!!!

Sounds fuel related maybe. The ECM cooling plate has a check valve on it that may be clogged on yours. Type in n14 fuel fix on YouTube and you’ll see it. It’s free and worth a try.

    Any codes?

Get a meter and see if you're getting 12V out of the fuel shut off solenoid. Additionally you can take a live hot 12V and put it to that post (Remove the ECM wire first) and see if it starts

yep, sounds like the wire to fuel shutoff valve (the wire to the post at the top of the fuel pump). also check connection of the ecm wire at the batteries.

Check the Cam Crank Position Sensor, it's located on the front lower driver's side of the engine behind the lube oil pump

How does no fuel make black smoke? Timing is or similar problem is more likely. Still should fire easy on either. Saw an 8V92 no start like that once. Had an injector plunger stuck. That cylinder must have been blowing fuel out of the fuel rail.

    Just a word of warning.

Be careful with that ether. Always be careful with ether.

One time a guy gave me a truck because his guys were trying to get it started and shot it with ether and they broke the crankshaft.

It's best never to use it, but if it's truly needed you have to use the very least amount that will start it.

    Change the fuel filter.
    Check the fuel lines.

I had a c15 cat do that minus shutting off, I was messing around with it and grabbed the injector harness on the side of the head and jiggled it a bit and sure enough it stopped, broken wire, might want to check the three plugs going into the ecm you never know
