I have a 2005 Volvo 780 with a Cummins ISX. I've spoken to Cummins US and Canada, trying to purchase a copy of the Insight engine software. Both have told me it's a subscription software.
My problem is that I occasionally drive in Quebec and Ontario Canada. As I'm sure you have heard, they require speed limiters, restricting the speed to 105 KM (Aprox 65 MPH).
The politics aside, I do not want to permanently set my speed to 65 MPH. I cannot afford to have a shop reset my ECM, sometimes twice a week. (Entering then leaving either province)
Is there some other software available, which I can install on my latop, that will allow me to set my speed on the ECM?
Cummins does not seem to be interested in this problem.

how will they know if your truck is set to 65? if your get it set to 65, then have it set back, you would have paper work showing you had it set. do they do their own test? thanks.
-
Exactly. Have one shop set it to 65, give you paper work that says so. Do this on Canadian side so they trust the shop. Have it re-set on the US side. Have it done at an independent shop that doesn't share info with Cummins or Volvo. Then, make DERN SURE you don't get caught going over 64 in Canada.

Hi. You need Cummins Insite to change the speed limit. You need Insite software and vehicle interface adapter(cable). Do not pay for software and subscription. I can show you a magic place where you can download it. Just buy that interface cable ( 200-400 dollars)...
buy inline 5 interface cable on ebay...or if you want better (and universal) one go with usb link ($700) , if you haul for c.h. robinson and got no money buy autotap brand with 9 pin deautch cable..

They do roadside test in Ontario and Quebec.
-
do you know how they do this? do they plug into the truck and check the setting in the computer? thx.
-
The road side inspectors have prolink scanner, Quebec is 0 tollerance, they have been checking trucks at the scale and if the truck is not limited, $385 fine. Ontario has a till june before they enforce.

Good grief.. Well I guess I gotta have a laptop cable for my Detroit. What a B I Witch. Is it against the law up there to have a plug in and software in the truck?
