I have a 2004 columbia Freightliner 60series Detroit. I took this truck to 3 shops. My turbo is not working properly. It surge in and out during the day. No specific time it just doesn't work . I1st shop couldn't find any codes they said but a new turbo. 2shop said same thing do I broke down and got one. Same problem. 3rd shop says v pod not opening so they replace the vpod and harness wire to vod for both egr vpod and turbo vpod. Still no luck. Tried the ugly fix . Nothing is working. Has anyone ever had this problem or can point me in the right direction??????

If it goes on and off check the turbo speed sensor. My turbo would kick on and off and it was a broken wire on the turbo speed sensor.

Do those motors have a waste gate on the turbo?

Yes they do and that was suggested by a mechanic that the waste gate was beginning to fail causing the boost to be dumped.

It could be failing or just out of adjustment. Ive had to adjust the one on my pickup before when it had turbo surge.

    try4thesky Thanks this.
