Freightliner Coronado/rebuild or glider

There is a few used Coronado gliders on the market right now as well. One thing I have heard is to steer clear of any in house engine builds from fitz. Get one that was rebuilt from Detroit themselves if you can. Haven't heard of 2021 being the last year for gliders being official.

 

The good engine is the Detroit reman with the 300K warranty. If you already have the truck, why get the same thing through the glider place, cause all you're gonna do is get the same engine, but without their added mark up.

 

Too much is subjective for anyone to know you or your situation.

I'm certain 95/100 drivers would have turned my used truck into a junk pile by now.

 

Whatever is cost effective for you. If you are rolling in cash, go to Fitzgerald and get one with the Detroit Reman Motor, do not buy their Fitzgerald reman with the Chinesium internals, they are a 200,000 mile motor.

 

My opinion is look for a nice clean used truck.One from an o/o who has taken good care of it.Theres a lot of good trucks out there,you just have to look.To me that’s the fun part.Best to have cash or financing in place.If financing keep in mind increased maintenance costs as you go.I myself would look for either a well cared for orig or a recently overhauled engine or trans etc. Also good tires or a lower price to reflect cost of new tires.That way I have a good start and hopefully no major repairs. The small maintenance items are always there with any used truck.I myself look at it this way as long as the electrical is good and the frame isn’t rotted everything else can be replaced.Of course electrical and frames can be replaced too, anything’s possible.I personally believe in making the money first then spending it, as you never know what can happen as far as repairs.In other words I don’t think it’s worth it to spend a ton of $$$ counting on making it back.If you maintain and drive it right a truck will last a long time.Not everything is better just because it’s been rebuilt.My truck is an 01 Freightliner Classic with 2.1 million. Still has orig front end parts original rears original starter even.Just had oil sample done. It came back great and it has 1.2 million on overhaul, go figure. I could spend a ton of $$$ trying to buy peace of mind.Instead I wait and pick and choose what to upgrade next after the money’s been made.My advice to you for what’s its worth is try not to paint yourself into a corner you can’t get out of.I like the Coronado myself.Theres a lot of guys out there who upgrade regularly due to whatever reasons, I would try to find one that hasn’t been neglected or abused by the driver. Run the truck make and save some money. Then decide as you go what to rebuild upgrade etc.
