Hello, could someone tell me what the requirements in Michigan are to do DOT inspections legally.
If you have to be a certified truck mechanic or auto.
    Thank You.

Our company trailer mechanic was not certified (he was a driver), but annual trailer inspections were performed by a local repair service only for liability purposes. The inspection cost $45 plus the time for a driver to drop and hook, or wait 20 minutes, at the repair garage. If the inspector found a defect, the driver would cell phone for permission to leave the trailer or bring it back to our own mechanic.

Mechanics have to be certified if they work on another company's equipment. Mechanics working on their employers equipment are not certified, but any company would be wise to document a mechanic's training and experience.

This is only my opinion and observations on the job as a driver.
