I didn’t want to sound like I’m crapping on someone’s dream, but I feel that’s the truth. To get someone or a team that will treat the truck like it’s their own will be tough to do, especially for a new company with a couple trucks where the business plan is load board freight.

    roshea Thanks this.

Take all your money and go to Vegas instead.

You'll get the same result, but you'll have more fun and better stories.

    Long FLD Thanks this.

I invested my money in lots and houses.

Lots of whisky and ##### houses.

    The rest I wasted.

Well, our business plan isn't load board freight. Already have several opportunities for daily regional runs that will make us whole. Being in the industry 9 years and having visibility (and many contacts) to the "good" freight is what will enable us to reinvest in our business and continue to grow.

Thanks to everyone for their insight. Being good people, respect, a thorough understanding of this industry, and the ability to follow through on our word will set us apart and enable us to eventually find and retain the right drivers.

You and all the other guys are 100% right. You gotta do your homework everyday not just once in a while. Rates and lanes and the spot market and the industry period changes constantly. You gotta know your break even point. You gotta know how to negotiate and not let these brokers railroad you. You gotta secure your overhead when you have the big bills you have in trucking. If you think your gonna be a millionaire and not have ups and downs your just thinking with your ###. Even a guy like myself. I know a little bit. But when the old timers speak I listen and learn. These guys have seen this business in different stages of evolution. Young guys, be more humble and steal with your eyes and ears. Its not a crime when you do it like that. You'll have plenty of time one day to be the old guy preaching...
