I'd really like to know where these people get their information! Trucking jobs? Construction jobs? Right.
Texas-Nana, gearjammer-2000, jasondt2001 and 2 others Thank this. -
Wow you would think I could get a job for crying out loud with numbers like that. All I've been getting is the run around. pretty soon I'll have to be a trainee again!

.
I really think someone has drawn a target on the trucking industry, in an attempt to drive down wages and force some people out altogether.
We have jobs in our area, that is no doubt. But they're not the types of jobs that are willing to hire a new grad, fresh from school.
And the ones that are willing to hire the newbs, are not jobs that newbs want.
If the demand is still there. Why have these schools dropped their fees?? -
Are so many driving jobs coming open from older drivers chosing to retire ? Or is it because drivers are getting pooped on and moving on to other job options ? What's the REAL STORY ?
-
The way these idiots figure this stuff out is stupid!
They figure since there are loads in the midwest sitting there is a driver shortage! When in reality its the freight rates and those of us who live here aren't willing to work that cheap! The shortage isn't drivers...its money!Scarecrow03 Thanks this. -
Drivers have always moved around. Up until this recessionary period. Turn over rates were as high (or higher) as 300% within some companies.
A "good" company would have as many as 50 new hires a week, out of a fleet of 2300. Do the math on that.
A bad company, could see 30 new hires per week. With a fleet of 400 trucks
That's not true now. Even the bad companies are seeing less turnover. Many are reducing fleet size as drivers quit, froze hiring, selling off extra trucks, and laying off drivers.
Freight is DOWN 17.8%. That's equal to about 480 less miles per truck, at 2007 numbers. Which many fleets had an average of 2400 miles per week, per truck then.
Based on those numbers, I can expect to make about $39,000 this year at my experience level. However, I will not make that much, by choice.
On the other hand, you as a new driver, can expect to make the same. They will run you like a dog, at a reduced pay scale. -
Well I'm not a women or minority in northern NV - so I guess that explains why no one is beating my door down to hand me a set of truck keys.
