Shippers/receivers that want your keys

Why haven’t you hooked your CB to the battery?..... C’mon now

 

I keep a generic cut key There isnt anything it will open that still exists (Basically a Master Lock) and hand that over with a trucking brand keyfob.

No one on this earth to this day has ever realized that kind of key does not fit any truck especially mine.

They want a key? ok. Here. Mind the freightliner fob ring. Don't lose it. Problem solved. Next...

 

C'mon now bumping a 7 1/2 year old thread.

 

About two weeks ago at Domino Foods in Baltimore. They asked me for my keys. I was more worried they would lose my keys and I would get stuck in Baltimore. The horror.

 

Many,many years ago,way before 9/11,I had to deliver a machine to a nuclear power plant. The machine was going right down in the bowels of the plant,inside the most secure area. Crazy security,thoroughly searched my truck and trailer from one end to the other. Even made me unload my tarps,unroll them looking for whatever. They required a guard be with me at arms length at all times,in or out of the truck. Everytime I stopped,I had to shut the truck off,hand guard the keys. Place took forever to unload,it was a cold windy day outside,guard assigned to me was an obnoxious jackazz. While waiting to unload he wanted me to walk outside the building with him in the freezing weather,so he could smoke a cigarette. I refused,he got mad,I said go ahead and go outside and smoke,he said I can't leave you. Sorry,tell your slackazz people to get me unloaded,and you can go smoke all you want.
Didn't help,they took hours,saturday delivery,and unloading crew was milking overtime,barely moving,but at least I stayed warm.

 

They are the sugar people.

Didn't their mill explode about the third floor some years ago? I thought that was enough to put them out of that work.

 

Yes the sugar factory. I did not know about the incident a few years back. I've only been once. Hopefully I will never have to go back again.

 

Walmart Grocery DC in North Platte, they want the keys, or I unhook and pull out 5' if I want to idle. Problem is, we take a lot of 20' containers in there, so we have to stay hooked to them for safety and thus give up the keys. Not long back, took a 20' container on 3 axle chassis in there. They said I had to stay hooked and give them the keys. I said why, the chassis weighs more than the empty container, the wheels are under more than 75% of the container and the landing gear are actually a few inches ahead of the container. Heck, if I drop it, it's probably safer than most of these normal van trailers.

Picked up at a chemical place recently, had to turn in the keys and wait in the lobby. Wasn't too bad, a/c worked, guy had a cute dachshund that came out to visit me, got to view all the cool racing and military memorabilia on the walls. 30 minutes later, I was good to go.

 

I always keep a spare key on my personal key chain anyway. But basically it's yet another attempt to circumvent Darwin. The more we idiot-proof society, the more idiots society will have to endure.
