Big difference in weight for similar truck. I was hoping to find a cascadia that's on par with my whopping 21800......225 and 20 def I think.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
READ YOUR CDL MANAUAL IT WILL EXPLAIN WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE TO TAKE A ROAD TEST.

Oh good lord I don't know. Every time I go bobtail over our scales its about 21K. How much fuel I have doesn't seem to move that number a huge amount. Or I keep going over the scale with roughly the same amount of fuel each time.

Wrong that is front axle weight on a 14 ply tire a 16 ply tire would give you a 13500 front axle weight. My 05 vnl670 factory scale slip said 17k no fuel on it. 26001 lbs is a cmv class 7/8 requiring a cdl with air brake endorsement if equipped if a trailer is attached the a combination endorsement is also needed .

A class A or a Class 8 Tractor Trailer rather, if I recall my Century and Great Dane Reefer trailer is going to be around 32000 empty. We could make it close to 31000 with half fuel. Throw in a team set of two people and stuff we are back at 32500.
The Century was really light compared to other trucks ive had such as the FLD 120 or the T2000. Those a little more heavier.
You can gross all the way to the far end bottom right of the DOT weight chart if you have the axles to do it. I think it's 260,000 with the proper permitting and correct heavy haul. There are times they haul more than that on special moves.
26001 is just getting started. I'll tell you a secret. We always hate to run empty, bobtail or not fully grossed in loading. We prefer to be 80000 when possible. It's the best way to have a truck. Ive had some upwards of 135 to 155000 (*Which is a paper weight on one load, that one broke the VA scales at 137500 before it had a chance to finish adding up.) Put that on a 60's era mack with about 200 horse and maybe 500 torque on a fat 10 speed plus 60 gallon single tank.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
most semi trucks (tractor only) weigh between 14000 and 18000 but the answer to your question is that you can take your cdl A test in any combination vehicle (truck and trailer) but has to have air brakes regardless of weight.
now I have heard of guys taking their test in a dually pickup truck with loaded goosneck trailer over 26000lb but then they had to get air brake test done separately. but that was years ago, rulls might have changed by now. -
Jesus do some of you posting even have a cdl?
Y'all need to learn the difference between curb weight and capacity.
ANY vehicle combo with a capacity of 26,001lbs requires a cdl (if commercial) or a non commercial class A (if a truck/trailer combo). -
Like I said, they need to read their CDL manual, it is all there to explain what they need.
I just can't believe .... never mind ...
