Well lets see, it has been awhile. They have a few physical therapists come in and have you do some tests. They have you squeeze a handheld thing to test your hand strength. I don't know the criteria on that but I passed. They have you reach behind your back to simulate putting a harness hook on because some places you load require you to harness up to get up on a load to tarp it. No biggie. I can barely reach back and I passed. You have to lay on a table on your stomach and show you can lift up your legs and arms (superman style) at the same time. No idea the point of that one. You then have to show you can do a squat and stand straight up. You then do stair steps for 3 minutes. You then lift a box of weights onto a table. You then go out to the bay and lift a tarp up on to the trailer. You then have to climb up on a big box on top of the trailer. Lastly you get in cab showing you can get in and out safely (3 points of contact at all times). I might have missed something but that is basically it. I was not in the best of shape and I did fine. No big deal really.IluvCATS and GettingRolling Thank this.

Dale Clay has a YouTube video about the test moments after he took it. He literally finished the test, walked outside, filmed the video.IluvCATS, Truckermania and GettingRolling Thank this.

Call Terpening Trucking in Syracuse.
They haul gas, they need drivers, and if you have any interest at all in tanks, might as well dive right in!GettingRolling Thanks this. -
I guess the main problem I'm having is knowing what's right for me. I don't want to bounce around so I really want to know I'm going in the right direction. Melton does seem like a very good option for me. If I were to go to orientation and get a taste of flat bedding and decide it is not for me before getting assigned to a truck will that be noted somewhere and count against me?
IluvCATS Thanks this. -
Theres no pearly gates. Its a hard life that takes more than it gives. You got to start somewhere. I would start by running away from it if i was starting again. Complete waste of life. The company gets richer and drivers scrounge up whatever they can put together. Look at the driver parking lot. If its old vehicles keep going. Tankers pay best.

No, it won't be counted against you. Other trucking companies see it as,"Melton's loss, our gain."GettingRolling Thanks this.
