According to this article, the Series 60 came out in Q1 of 1987. Penske didn't invest into Detroit until 1988.

One thought that comes to mind is that you can buy a lot of fuel for the price of an overhaul, and at the rate thus far with the 2013 Cummins you will have 3 overhauls by the time you get to 1.1 million. On the other hand you are near to needing an o/h in the Cat.SAR, wore out, stwik and 1 other person Thank this.

Detroit is now owned by Mercedes. Just like Freightliner and Western Star.
ALSO
Fitzgerald is now limited to selling only 300 gliders a year, by a decision of the EPA and a court ruling. So a glider may not be a viable option in the future.
