Sometimes those dinky arse 2 Wires that power each fuel injector have been known to "melt" from touching hot intake manifold or valve cover. Now the injector isnt opening or closing ,spraying any fuel i,cylinder is not making power its just along for the ride.Just something to investigate

You said you have ET right? Use the IVA solenoid test to check circuit response. It gives pass/shorted live during the test. Pop the cover, repair pigtail and done before the engine even cools off. Hour fix tops. If the harness's look like #### then plan the down time to take it apart and do it right. Full day job when you have done it before.
I dont understand this need to take something off or delete things that arnt working correctly. Understand how the system operates, troubleshoot, repair. These engines are old as crap and it's all been done, over and over.
Hope you get er up and running.AModelCat, pushbroom, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks. We’re going to work on it. We’re not deleting the IVAs.Oxbow Thanks this.

the internal harnesses are prone to intermittent faults as they get so hot and brittle plus suffer oil ingress over time. if your suspect best bet is just to change it.
other things to check is for oil bleed off. that can be from cracked VVA housing, blown jump tube seal or a snapped rocker shaft stud. all worth checking. if the VVA faults just move it to another cylinder. if fault remains its harness or oil related -
Thanks

You need to read codes. High voltage means " open" in circuit. Cut wire or loose connection. High current means "short" in circuit. I just replaced my inner wiring harness. $330.00 did the work myself. One year ago I was getting high voltage, I replaced all the connectors to the IVA's. Took care of the problem. 6 months later high current on injectors 5&6 replaced the harness problem solved.
On the BSX engines the IVA housings have to come off to replace harness. I believe also to do the overhead. Good luck. -
the IVA housings have to come off and the skirt needs to be removed. if the truck has room under the bonnet the rocker shafts can remain. meaning only the VVA and compression brake lash needs setting after

Eliminate the IVA all together and itlli run much better
