i was just hired at a local beverage driving a tractor. Western express is offer ring a regional job delivering to Walmart’s. Do I stay local or should I take Walmart. I want good home time and the beverage is from 2:00 am to 1:00pm I sleep in the afternoon. Western express told me I would be home on the weekend. Advice and opinions please.
I do want to go over the road in the future

I have no firsthand knowledge of Western Express, but I have gotten a strong impression from these forums that they are a less than desirable company to work for. Do some searching, you’ll see what I mean.

A lot of drivers would be jealous of your hours, but there is a downfall to staying with that local gig... It likely will not count as “OTR experience,” so that could hurt you if you try to land a good OTR job in the future. I know it’s stupid, it’s an insurance thing.

I’m only 15 so I don’t know much. My dad drove for western express a few years back and he was home the weekends, sometimes he got home late Saturday night or had to leave mid Sunday. My uncle has been driving for Walmart for quite a while and I don’t think home time is very good. Unless you want lower pay. However my uncle has said benefits of Walmart, however Im not very sure about which they are, as I wasn’t part of the conversation.

I’m not crazy about either for you.
Want a good driving job and local?
Look at food service. Sysco, US Foods, Etc. Good job. You might not want to leave.

You don't need experience to go OTR, so you can do that whenever. Beverage delivery looks like back breaking work which doesn't appeal to me. Dedicated Walmart would be my pick, but...I would be wary of Western Express based on all the bad press they get in here.

Having said that, if they pay correctly and you get the promised weekends off then the name is on the truck won't matter.

I wouldn't do food service for a million dollars a week.
I've also delivered to many Walmart DC's all over the country and they can be grouchy, but still that's better than food service or beverage.
That's my opinion! Some people love the challenge of, "I'm going to be the first person in history to do beverage/food service, and not get a bad back that I have to suffer with later in life." That later in life might just be in late 30's or 40's.

Thanks. My back is already bad but saying that I can work. Most companies I’ve called counts the local experience as actual experience. I like local for the family and I’m home every day for 48,000 a year. Food service in my area want experienced drivers. I’ve looked into flatbed companies too. I wish I could find a company that would let me do local and after one year I would do regional and in two years me and the wife would team.
I have read bad reviews about western Express so I figured I would ask.
    I’m comparing
Working coke driving tractor unloading pallets from 2-12 Monday thru Friday
    Flatbed Weekends off
Western Express two days off a week probably weekends Walmart account
I’m always looking and calling and come here for information and advice

What if I told you that you can do ltl linehaul 600 miles each day and home everyday plus on weekends?

The companies that you want to apply to are Old Dominion Freight line, Fedex Freight, Estes, XPO and ABF. Try UPS feeder driver too if you can
