I am in the process of researching companies. I've landed on Palmer. However, I am aware that you're suppose to get your CDL through the state you reside in (From what I understand. I'm new to all of this, please educate me if I am wrong.). So, can I get my Washington State CDL through Jim Palmer? And if not is there a way for me to go through them for my training and still live in Washington?

Best to call, but you can get your cdl through Jim Palmer in Montana, then the school gives you the paper work to take back to Washington.
Bluedew, CJ701, DrGreenthumb and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you for responding! I just got off the phone with a recruiter. I was entirely wrong about how the process works.
-
Did the recruiter tell you the same thing I did? I want to keep up on the latest!Bumper Thanks this.

Yes she said that once I've passed the tests and successfully gotten my CDL in Montana that it can be transferred to my Washington State Driver's License. I feel that there were some details left out about the process, but that's okay. I will learn as I go!Bluedew, CJ701, bbq247365 and 1 other person Thank this.

They'll probably give you a Montana cdl, then a package of paperwork to take to Washington DMV to prove you completed school. That's what most companies do.Bluedew, CJ701 and firemedic2816 Thank this.

There was a woman on here (Also from Washington) who wrote that in her experience with Jim Palmer's training program she had to surrender her Washington Driver's License. I believe her thread was roughly 9 months old if I remember right. That's the only thing that makes me think there might be more to it than what the recruiter told me.

In trucking, having more than one driver's license is a crime. There's nothing shady about trucking companies and the states doing that. They're just complying with existing law.
Bluedew and firemedic2816 Thank this. -
Oh no I wasn't insinuating that there was anything shady going on. I'm just anticipating more paperwork and hoops. HahahaChinatown Thanks this.

Well, get started; Jim Palmer Trucking is a good outfit.Bluedew Thanks this.
