I'm going to keep doing it... Well at least in my car!
I even got everyone in my family to do it!

I flashed many today...got only one response...again I think many new drivers don't even know what it means anymore...or don't care...

It's scary to see the trucking culture change before your very eyes...

Trucking use to be a 'culture'...(I know we've all heard that a million times)
    but it's true...

There were certain mannerisms, certain things you did or didn't do...all these things got handed down...

But now they don't...now you just have people who drive for corporations...everyones singluar in their purpose for being out here...strangers on the road...

I think it's because many of the companies teach students that it's illegal... Which, technically I guess it is!
Although I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for it!

My company discourages it because of the possiblity of civil liability if there's an accident. That being said, I'll flash because I figure you're busy enough trying to stay on the road, keep from getting sucked into the big truck you're passing, not getting blinded by headlights, and trying to keep from running into the truck you just passed.

What's that one song...'If loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right'..Well
'If flashing you is wrong, I don't wanna be right'...

And then you have the drivers who pass you, and just swing back over in the lane...and your like
'Are they mad at me? Did I do something wrong?'

But maybe it's due to all the bluetooth technology...maybe drivers today, are so engaged in other things, that they just don't have hands free to 'light talk' anymore...

Yep now as for a culture, This is a way of life... I'm fast becoming a Dino sore... May-be I will change my handle to Dino!!! LOL nah I like" Soup" fits me better.. Large carriers are always looking for ways to reduce liability, my-be they should stick to hiring drivers who can really drive and not just go from truck top to truck stop... Never mind!! The newbies have to start some where, it's just too bad they are trained by guys who do not have a clue, Three blind mice, the big bad wolf, Little red ridding hood and the likes... He He He! snicker, snicker... So much for fairy tales. but hey they act as if they live in fairy land, and need pixie dust to get along. Oh well that' another story! I have heard for far to long that this is a job, pay check, and no regards as to the type of life we live out here on the road... just another by product of the CDL schools. Come learn how to drive a truck so you too can make big money... when the truth of the matter is , see how much of a idiot you can show your self to be... disrespecting the way of life others have made, and always saying the old ways are dead and gone. I say be off with you, go find a so called real job to collect a pay check from and stay off my roads. Most of them are the ones giving trucking a bad name. OOOPPPsssssssss I got carrid away. Stepping down from my soap box now.. Ya all have a safe and pleasant day.

Well I think it ought to be a requirement to flash another driver day or night, especially in bad weather, Fog, Rain, etc. I have courtesy for all my fellow drivers, even if I'm in my 4 wheeler I still flash.

well I flash but only after the passing truck is two full lengths ahead of me,and when someone flashes me out on the open interstate ,I am not coming over till I have safe following room,so to be a safe driver you are just endangering other drivers to flash to soon,I don't care if the tin cans pass me on the right . when I am ready to comeback over I will signal and wait for a safe clear zone. If the traffic is so bad that you need to be flashed to avoid right passers you need to slow down and follow.
It is a courtesy to flash but not necessary for a safe driver, and to pass then act like you are being treated discourteously if the passed truck doesn't flash you only means you changed lanes without giving safe following distance before the lane change.

I was cutting the lights off on my mentor's Freightliner and KW, then I started flashing the hi beams on my Volvo, I will stop that now, never thought about the irritation that my courtesy was causing.

I notice that most trucks don't acknowledge the flash during the day, but do at night.

The super truckers that don't think you are even worth a signal are aggravating. Too many young, self-absorbed spoiled kids out there ruining everything from movies, eating out and recreation to trucking. My kids are young adults and I was strict on them because my Airforce capt dad did not spare the rod on me..

I flash, an turn off light's. Depends how fast the driver wants over, or the mind state that comes along.
