because of costs, they use trucks to earn money that means trucks are suppose to have lowest possible costs high availability without downtime since this could lead to delay.
as i stated earlier awd can be very problematic thing once truck gets older.
their regular transmission and axles(strongest available) lasts 6000-8000 hours that is under one year. one brand (i will not say which one) it last only 4000-5000hours. with my approximation this would mean they have to overhaul whole front axle 3x per year.
if you want to test new components to check how they work, indonesian coal mines are best place to do that.

so differential that would work 25years here is destroyed there in one year.
they have to wash radiators every day to remove mud from it

    some facts:
-20tonnes legal axle weight, 44k per axle
    -gross 200+tonnes - 440+k lbs
    -inclines up to12%
    -temperatures of 110F
-very high level of humidity close to 100%
    -rain almost every day
    -mud
-non stop operation, they drive 22h per day 7days per week

KVB, Cat sdp, pushbroom and 2 others Thank this.

hydraulic system is suppose to be used only as aid, it is not there to replace whole driven axles. it work on hydraulics, oil is heated while used to cool that you need cooling. however at climate they have this is quite limited and quite short period. i know for few 3 daf trucks with hydraulic axle as heavy haulage, i know for one volvo. i have made mbs with it 264k mostl.

ginaf axle is limited to max speed of only 15kmh lowest within all brands.(25-30kmh)
saf axle cost 9000€ and thereby is not very economic choice. it works till 5kmh there is no cooling, it works on tipping hydraulics with return line. i have seen it first time in 4/2016. as much i know it is in use since 9/2014 in switzerland

Yes, I know it is an aid for low speed only. But that's fine, it's for steep inclines, snow, mud etc. , situations where you're working with low speed anyway.

Are you sure? Ginaf has a video clip explaining the use of their system, and there they say the system switches off @30 km/h, and switches on again @ 20 km/h, if you didn't switch it off yourself.
It depends of course how often you need such an axle. That also applies to an hydraulically assisted steer axle. If you have a normal semi, but you have to make deliveries in winter time at rather remote places, then I can imagine that such an axle can be of great benefit.

Some time ago someone wrote the same thing about a 450HP MX-11.

It seems drivers experience the MX engines at first as gutless, but then they notice these engines actually perform very well.

Perhaps the MX engines build up their power a bit less dramatic than other engines, a bit more refined. And then the drivers find out these engines pull better then they expected, and better then they were used to.
