One appeal of dedicated is that you can be home daily. Take a regular run from Nebraska into Denver and back. All in one night. US Mail runs are often like this. You make very good money. Boring as can be.
Other dedicated can vary. Schneider’s Dollar General.... Regular covering four states. Forget how long out?
I’m sort of a mixture. Out of Kansas. I deliver frequently regularly to 5 states. Others that are like 3 months apart. I’ve gone to Tennessee on one of those. There is one on the coast in SC like this. Then there are odd runs to just about anywhere. Just did one to Iowa. I’ve been to the west coast, Michigan, also ND.

OK, so the search will be to find a decent company that will offer "true" OTR for us.
Not sure if I should be looking at smaller or mega carriers for this.
I do not want a "dedicated" route or a local route. I do not want monotony or hometime...at least not for awhile.Wargames Thanks this. -
A example will be McKesson in Memphis. They ship narcotics, trauma kits, needles, cancer meds etc all over. You get a trailer going to say Detriot for 7 am next morning. You have to be there at that time in the morning. You are unloaded by them. (Secure warehouse, you stay in truck, they bring bills to you) after reloading with cardboard bales back to memphis McKesson you go, asap.
Who knows where you be tomorrow but you always head back to Memphis. Once in a while like on 9-11 they will pull on stocks and transload to Linfield CT that controls medicine for the entire East Coast and they needed a awful lot of everything. We crossed over the GWB (Geo. Washington Bridge) on 9-12 at 9:30 eyeing the burning pile. And we were on our way back out across to Memphis 24 hours later.
It's a form of dedicated.
I noticed you spent sometime talking about mechanical trucks. I offer you this thought. I think your bus was mechanical. If so then you would hear the music when she's in the sweet spot on power. You will get the same thing in a big truck. However, it's a living being so to speak. It has to give you what it can under the situation whatever you might be doing. Crossing a mountain etc. And it will not give you anymore than what she will do. So it might need more precision in your appointment trip planning once you understand how far you can get with a older mechanical.
It's a trip, for lack of a better word.Gatorgrl Thanks this. -
I noticed via YouTube that apparently they are looking at modifying the HOS and time in the sleeping berth. Any new word on this?
It would be AMAZING if they would let you split up your time (especially in a team setting) and let your hours be totaled at the end of the day instead of basically forcing you to drive 11 hours when you might not be in the most alert state due to scheduling issues. -
Yes, currently it is an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking from the FMCSA. What that means is they are seeking comments from the public until Oct. 10th and will then decide sometime in the future what, if any, changes will be made to the hours of service. It will likely be years before we see anything come of it.
You can make your comments online at www.regulations.gov enter FMCSA-2018-0248 in the search window and it will bring you to the docket. Read the proposal and answer with your comments as you would like to see the rules changed.Gatorgrl Thanks this. -
Thanks for the link. I am researching it all now and will be drafting up my comment to add to the collective whole, as time permits. (I'm at work now) I REALLY hope they can modify the HOS of service to benefit us all.
