I'm buying a truck sometime in the next month or so not sure what company on going to join. I would ultimately like to run down and back up the east coast to be home weekends with the family. If anyone knows any companies with lanes as such or something similar please let me know thanks.

Anyone else want to question my predictions for 2019 and 2020?

OP,.. in all honesty. If your looking to be home weekends,.. I would strongly suggest you stay company driver and hit on with LTL regional. You will make more money,.. less head aches,.. and your location there are many many who pay by the hour, union scale.

I could be wrong,.. so no offense. But based on your question and my personal current market analysis. Now is not a good time to be a novice O/O. Bank your money,.. wait till after the 2020 election and see where the market is at that point.

Trust me on this,.. there will be many many cheap trucks available. You dont want your to be among them right now.

Thanks for the input. I have a great company job now. I run hard during the week and only get time with the family on weekends I figure I might as well get my own truck run the same way with maximum earning potential. A few companies working out of the ports in nj I could be home daily staying within a 250 mile radius with the option to go further just heard a lot of bad things about going in and out of the ports

If you are dead set on getting a truck and think you will make more money and have more time to yourself,.. then by all means,.. go find your dream. We all started somewhere.

I'm not trying to crash your party and spoil this for you. But in my personal opinion based on what you are posting here,.. you dont have a clue how this works and are not ready. Buying the truck is the easy part. Knowing how to be independent and not depending on another company for your livelihood is where so many fail. As an O/O you cant just park your truck on the weekends and spend time with family,.. you need to go over every square inch of all your equipment,.. find potential things and perform the preventative maintenance and repairs required and have that truck ready to go back out with out going down while you are working on it.

I stay out weeks at a time,. and then take off for a couple weeks. Thats just me and how I do it. But when ever I bring that truck in,.. I spend at least 2 days going over the truck,.. and often more when repairs or maintenance are needed. Its a never ending process. You work the truck to earn the money to put back into the truck so you can keep earning more money that needs to go back in the truck. As an O/O,.. the truck controls you. Thats your bread and butter. Its a 24/7 effort to keep everything going. Its a constant effort to find new customers to pay the bills to keep the wheels rolling.

There is so much more,.. I honestly dont have the patience to get into it with you right now. But knowing what I know now based on my personal past experience,.. now is not the right time to come out here with out the required business experience to enable yourself to be self sufficient. As a novice,.. you will NOT find the money your looking for right away. You dont just step into this and start making bank from day one. It doesnt happen like that. There is a learning curve and a process of mistakes that will either break or make you that you need to go through first.

Do what you want,.. wish you luck.
