Be interesting to see who us on the list. IF you ever get an answer to the "actual question" you asked. I live about 160 miles north of you, and i dont no the answer. Unless you changed the question from south to mid west.

Everyone goes to the north east. The trick is either deadheading OUT or getting a minor load of water from Poland Spring Maine going somewhere. It's chaotic.

Be a company driver for now until about 2024. Build and stack your money. The United States is heading for a low period in overall situation and you frankly do not want to be a O/O when the economy starts to drag. Everyone seems to be trying to pile in too much based on Cass Index figures and back orders of a whole bunch of trucks. ALL of that will crush the used market in about two years when the miles run off them. And there is approx 8 to 11% of all trucks divided by trailer type sitting idle as of the most recent Cass data.

You do not want to be in debt either.

Im not crushing your dreams or ambition, but frankly I have good memories of the late 60's into the 70's as the economy dragged on the USA resulting in 19% interest on houses and 15% on cars. Indeed my bank on one of my retail car buys raised my rate to 15% in a punitive manner converting a 7400 dollar Car into a 16000 frankennote that is silly and stupid to continue paying on. I cut my losses and pitched the car back to the bank. Ultimately the bank itself failed a few years later. I took the credit hit.

I am taking additional credit hits myself as I write this. Shifting everything towards a medical billing that has to be seen to be believed. The other credits are being pitched back to the banks as fast as I dare do so. When enough of he People do the same thing and break economically, this nation will not need truckers. And that is why you need to be a company man quietly stacking cash and savings until we climb out of this thing sometimes towards 2030. You will be then in a awesome position to buy several trucks and trailers and hire people to worry about what loads go where.

Nothing is certain. Not even if it has a warranty, or guarantee .

What goes up must come down that’s how money is made. The hard part is having money when things go to pot.A good job home daily and on weekends is a good thing especially w/ a family at home.

Like I said, it will be interesting to see who is on the list. If you get an actual answer to your question. Which was who runs down south and back up to the north east. Basically Maine to miami.

That other one that the owner got caught smuggling contraband into Canada 20-30 years ago and ran out of the customs office and jumped the fence and never went back (you heard that story @mover man?)

hey I want to put my few cents here,
STAY COMPANY DRIVER, I have 2 trucks running that area(one running the ports and another one running beer) and I have to count my pennies.
    1. As a owner operator you will be responsible for everything.
    2. The ports are not paying that much when you take a vacation and still owe money on that truck you are losing money because that truck still need to be paid and if my wheels aint turning im not making money.
    3. Parking around there is stupid expensive (200 to 450 a month ) let someone worry about where to park and commuting from the Bronx to nj can get really expensive
4.Benefits healthcare is expensive stupid expensive, retirement, 401k ect is good to have (I get mines thru the military)
    5. Accountant and IRS good accountant cost money and will keep you out of their noses ( I pay 200 dollars just to sit with my accountant not counting her services)
    6. Companies around that area are offering guarantee pay anywhere from 1200 to 1800 and like someone said everything.
    7. Unless you can ride the slow season for container work is usually last week of December until mid march. I can because my trucks are paid off and my drivers take vacations around that time.
    8. Forever new equipment!!
That's my point of view. so unless you can live with those things over your head pull the trigger.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.
