Swift starts their drivers out at .26 cents per mile. The national average for trucking companies that start new drivers as students pays between 26 and 28 cents per mile. It's not a means to get rich quick! Even after a few years, they aren't throwing money at ya! The ideal situation you ask? A person who owns their own truck, it's paid for, has a good government contract, or can haul those giant wind turbines! Not sure how much they get, but I have heard it's a good way to go. Tough, but a good way to go!
Need some advise please...

Hey MissLori, can I ask you a quick question? (well, besides that one, I mean) hehehehe
What's the lowest wage per mile you've heard of recently, and can you tell me who paid it out? Just curious to know what I could expect to get (or hopefully, avoid). -
Someone said in another thread that Carolina Cargo pays their teams 24 cpm. When I started driving in 96 with Direct Transit (also bought out by Swift) the starting rate was 20 cpm. Cannon Express was starting at a quarter. Just to put things in perspective.
desperado75 Thanks this. -
My first job was at Direct Transit Inc july 96 was getting 21 1/2 cpm of the trainers truck. 6 years later i drove for cannon express at 37cpm...jsChinatown Thanks this.

One driver posted on here the other day that Carolina Cargo pays each driver .24 cpm, not .24 cpm split.
If so, that's .48 cpm split.
He talked to their recruiter and some big changes have been made there, including the name of the company. Carolina Cargo is now Carolina Cargo Freight Expediters. -
Want the good news or the bad? Ok i'm guessing you'll want to hear the good news first, yes you can make more than $28,000 however you've got to really be prepared to work for it ah now that's the key though you see you enjoy your home time as well so here's the bad news forget about home time well as you know it anyway if you enjoyed going down to lake or the river fishing and camping and jet skiing those days will be over for good while you are driving the big rig perhaps only when you get your annual leave / vacation time will you be able to do that again yes to make the good dough / money you will need to keep busy on the road the more miles you run the bigger your pay check will be and the less time you will have at home, so weight this up very carefully before pursuing a career with OTR, the other good news is if you can land a day driving job where you can go out for the day and get back again that evening.Chinatown Thanks this.
