Maybe some do. However, I rarely get a backhaul load. 99% of the time, it is a dead head empty back. However, since it is a pickup only, you are welcome to do some sight seeing.

It was guys with Hoosier that got loads back from OR or WA . Bennett used to get some back from CA but Fleetwood closed that plant and the one in Longview , TX and a couple of others quite a while ago . I hauled for Bennett and went NE as much as I could because I could get loads back out of Hancock , MD . I'd sometimes have to do a Long Island load though to "earn" a load back south .
And when ever any hotshotter or RV hauler tells you how much he "makes " , ask him how much he reported to the IRS last year . Then get ready to hear what a good accountant he has . :biggrin_25519:

    Rick,
Quality has yards in California, Oregon and Georgia.

My point is that I rarely went to those states.

Quality closed their Hancock office and you are correct about the Fleetwood problem.

I ran hotshot for a couple years. Had my own setup. Small freight shaker with a 48 ft wedge. Had a fair sized sleeper on it also. Made good money but had to let it go for other reasons.

Sure wish I had it back somedays.

Acme Truck Lines. No, I would not think so unless there is Oilfield work going on out there.

All our operations are mainly around the Gulf Coast as that is where the oilfield is mainly located. If you have any oilfield service companys out there you might check with them.

You can check out their website acme truck you know the rest. We are only hiring in OK, TX, and LA right now.

there is a guy here in alliance, alliance auto transport, that has a couple of extended cab 'shakers that he pulls 5 car trailers with. I have been considering giving him a call and quizing him on his operation. were a ways from interstates, so im pretty sure he just hauls up to the little dealers in the small towns in the area.

have been thinking about buying a medium duty truck, like a 4*00 international and putting a 48" flattop onto it. and leasing onto a hotshot company. seems like an easier way to become an o/o. and a medium duty with a dt466 or 444 engine will way outlast a 1 ton.

Freight is slow for pickups and 1 tons now. Fell flat. You have to have DOT/MC, 750,000 liability, if you haul cars a hazmat cert and if you are over 26,001 lb. you have to have a CDL. 3 cars pay 1500-1800 from Balt -SEA, thats 2800 mi. It's ridiculous and really does'nt pay that good. If you put a sleeper on it has to be DOT certified,(There's only one) but you can take a 4 door truck, remove the back and front seat and put a bed there and it's legal to of sleeping.

MD VA and NC are really cracking down on pickups hauling anything. Found new revenue from un-permitted trucks. I got pulled into W VA w/my pickup and they tried to tell me I was 2000 lb over but I had a log on and said I was just dumb farmer.
