There is no comparison. USA and LS are total opposites

If you can get on with landstar and you have some money saved so you can learn the system and you are willing to stay in the midwest while you learn it is the best dry box place to be in my opinion.

Best money per mile but they will threaten to pull your lease at the drop of a hat when you wont take your weekly shafting. To many agents posting old loads, booking loads they dont have, and giving bad information that costs days of sitting. They are good, just dont plan to work more than 4 days a week on average. Booking loads to work every day will bite you. 1 out of 4 will probably cancel, usually less than 24 hour notice. It is a miracle if you get paid layover, detention, out of Route miles, truck order not used, or anything not in the original price. You also have to read what they send you as a confirmation. It's not unheard of for them to slip in a different price, extra stops, Or other nonsense. I personally have been forced to drive close to 400 miles for no extra pay because of fine print that said occasionally you have to bring back empty racks if the customer doesn't plan to ship anything else for a while (auto shutdown)
The guys that love Landstar have been there for a while. Many people work with agents who don't post to the board. Once you get on a gravy route you're good. Until then good luck. Landstar suggest that you build relationships with good agents rather than them having to run out the bad ones.
Lastly 65% isn't really true. They also charge for everything, Qualcomm, prepass device, even to get paid you pay them a fee. They refuse to pay by any other means than a Comdata card so if you give them any problems about your shafting they will freeze all of your money, whatever's on it, not just advances.jeff18, CorsairFanboy, hagarcobra and 2 others Thank this. -
Don't know about that jatlyons, I have a driver who never drove for LS, he bought the truck he was driving from me, went over there and is making good coin, he learned that the best thing to do is to actually talk to BCOs who are owners, not fleet drivers and get a plan together. He is the fifth one who has moved onto ls and never worked for them in my fleet.

How much does it cost to run your truck per mile, OP?
DieselDrivinDaddy Thanks this. -
Good point DSK. Usa is doing what $1.30? For that rate you might as well be company
I average over 1.8 probably over $2 havent figured in a while. Like I said best per mile. Just wish I could get more than 2k miles in a week. Could make another grand to 1500 on average after fuel if didnt have so many agent and bad contract caused hangupsDSK333 Thanks this. -
You knew where I was going with that question! USA is talking miles, you know it's bad. They know most of us were company drivers living mile to mile before we bought trucks so they take advantage of that. I try to run as little miles as possible. Miles cost me money. I actually develop my rate quotes based on 100 an hour.

So you don’t read the fine print and then complain.
Every thing that they charge you for is listed in the contract you signed, don’t ##### about what you agreed to pay.jdrentzjr, sawmill and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
I have an opinion on this matter.
WesternPlains, Oldironfan, 86scotty and 1 other person Thank this.
